Questions about Rob Tune ECU

So I am intrigued by the Rob Tune ECU option but I still have many questions as far as what is required to make this all work. Bear with me as I am not very knowledgeable in this field but I am wanting to learn as much as I can! Here are my questions.

From what Ive read he just tunes ej20g ECUs but I see people running his setup on an ej22t. Does this ECU work on a stock ej22t as well?

I have a 93 SS wagon and I wanted to do some sort of tune but with the stock EJ22t engine. Would the rob tune be a viable option or would I need to get ej20g heads? Ive read thats a common swap. For the record I am trying to avoid pulling my motor and having to do any kind of engine modifications.

Again I am sure there is a lot more to this but I was just hoping for some clarification and info to start pointing me in the right direction. The rob tune seemed like a possible option instead of a standalone. I am trying to do this also as more of a budget tune rather than pay thousands for a custom standalone tune.

Any input is welcome! Thanks

Hi and welcome.

The robtune only runs on an ej20g 4-plug ecu from a WRX or STI. Happily, their wiring is so close that all you have to do is run an ignition converter (which Rob sells, or you could wire your own), and run a 92-98 legacy non-turbo "plastic" MAF. So yes, you can use your bone stock ej22t without pulling it.

So really you'd need:
N/A MAF
TD05 (or similar) turbo
Some intercooler
440cc or 525cc injectors
ignition converter
4-plug impreza ej20g ecu
robtune chip
Manual boost controller

You can get all this for under $1000 if you aren't in a rush.

I suggest reading the "adapting an ej20g ecu" thread and the "Robtune ecu" threads. They have a LOT of info. I suggest reading through the dozens of pages in the threads too. Between those two threads, I'm pretty sure everything is covered. I only needed extra reference because I was doing an ej20g swap and Robtune at the same time.

Awesome! Thank you both for the info.
