Got a tie rod end question

Hey guys ripped my power steering rack out because of how bad it was leaking, and noticed that the tie rods on the old rack have like a lock nut on the end of the rod to keep it from threading on further. Do i need that nut or is it a preference type thing?

Ill have to buy new ones because tho old ones are pretty much welded to the old rack.

You should have the nut on there. They're there to stop the rod end from spinning freely. It'd probably mess up your alignment if it's not there.

The inner tie rod is a ball and socket so if you don't have a jam nut there essentially the inner tie rod could rotate and as CJ said could mess your alignment up by moving in or out.
