i recently got a new disabilty case workrer. she has to go with me to my disabilty medical appointments. well yesterday i had a appointment and had to take my moms 03 out back because she couldnt fit in my car. she barely could fit in the out back. i'm not trying to be mean. but one they way we when up hill and the car struggled and the check engine light came on. but when i drove the car back to my moms house it ran fine and had alot of pep. can the weight effect performance?

Pull the codes with an OBD2 reader or go to a local autoparts store to have them pull it.

my main question is can all that extra weight cause issues like that? she's 300 lbs easy. and all that weight on on side.

Yeah I guess that was sorta rude of me to say. But hot dang!
Not sure about your CEL's. But my guess is that its just a misfire code.

Id imagine it could if the motor already has some underlying issues that are not yet very apparent. I had a legacy gt that would throw misfire codes when I had it loaded up with snowboard gear and passengers while driving up the mountain.

300 lbs should not cause the motor to misfire. 300 lbs of cargo in the trunk is nothing. Two regular sized people in the back seat is 300 lbs. Most cars are designed to carry 5 people.....so what I'm getting at is one additional 300 lb person should not cause you any issues.

well we been driven it since and no issues. and thats all we can think of. and its 300lbs on one side not spread out like ya would packing or having 5 people

I still don't think it'd be an issue.
