Hi everyone,

What is this electrical component? It's located behind the passenger strut tower and has number "6842060050". A quick Google search of those numbers returned nothing. It was unplugged on my car for some unknown reason.

Previous owner installed a manual boost controller if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks!

It's called a dropping resistor. We use them when adding manual boost controllers. We unplug the oem boost control solenoid and that resistor in to the bcs plug to eliminate the check engine light.

The automatic transmissions also use a dropping resistor. IIRC, it's mounted on the back side of the boost solenoid/MAP bracket.

Yes, the automatic transmission needs to have that dropping resistor.

Like CJ mentioned, it can also be used to fool the ECU when adding a MBC.
