No hole in fire wall for clutch master...

Just looking through threads and trying to find options for transmissions when this one decides to go. If I do upgrade, I think it would be in my benefit to find a JDM turbo trans setup as I think I would enjoy the upgrade to 4.44 with DCCD, but In my 1990, there are no holes (nor a grommet covering them) on my fire wall to install a hydraulic clutch master cylinder.

Is it as simple as drilling my own holes?

Yes. :) I would have all the pieces on hand to mockup before I drilled, however.

That's because the 90 was a cable clutch

yeah but aren't all NA cars in this gen cable operated and all turbos are hydraulic? and since there wasn't a turbo in 90 there aren't holes for a hydraulic. Thats just what I have pieced together as to why not.

I think they punched the holes after the fact for the turbo cars.

oh, so even on say, a 1993 NA. A year that obviously came in a turbo option, I still wont see the holes? sorry, I don't have one around I could look at.

Subaru isn't consistent like that. It would make sense, tho.

When I did my AWD & 5MT swap I had to drill holes for the clutch master cylinder and I happened to make a template.

http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swa ... drivetrain

The template is in three formats. As long as when you print out the template that the dimension labeled as 4-1/2" measures 4-1/2" you should be good. Just take off any scaling when printing through Adobe or other programs.

I seem to recall reading somewhere (likely here), that it's the Japanese built cars that had the firewall hole pre-punched and the Lafayette SIA cars did not.

I know my '93 SS auto, with a "J" vin, had the cutout.

Can confirm. My MY 91 (06/90 build date) SS, built in Japan (VIN "J") has the hole pre-punched for clutch MC. Has rubber plug in shape of MC that is embossed "LH".

Like stated above, I'm going to assume since 90' wasn't a turbo option that's why there's no hole. 91-94 we had the turbo option, so i'd assume that's why the NA cars have the spot for it.

Some of our 1990s have a japanese vin. Id be curious to see if those are pre drilled.

They were not. My 90 MY Legacy was made in Japan and does not have the pre-punched out hole.
