Just remembered about a old trick a friend of mine used to do back in the days, put a few magnets underneath the oil plan, to get all the metal particles down the pan and flush them eventually during oil changes....
You guys ever heard about that? I found it kinda neat

Subaru makes a oil plug with a magnet in it. I've had them for years in addition to a (filter mag) on my oil filter. They work!!!
Here's an EBAY link:

I grabbed one of those plugs when I put the current engine in my car. It works!

Brass from the bearings and aluminum from the heads and block are not magnetic. I would hope your not seeing magnetic metal in your oil. Not saying cam, crank, and piston rings aren't getting into the oil but I just wouldn't think you would see much on a magnet. But I suppose something is better then nothing.

Are the oem bearings brass?
There was a small amount of stuff on the magnet.

Most bearings are a tri metal (steel, copper, and nickel) if you get down to the steel you have problems, and shows up real quick on a magnet. With metal to metal contact you will get wear and that produces small partials of metal that floats around and hopefully the filter catches it if it's big enough. A majority of the metal you find on the magnet is from rings as they are the most torchered component in an engine and get super heated and has many jobs, to scrape up and down and keep oil and compression where it's belongs.

Cool, never knew they make such a plug!:)
Well I suppose if you do find a lot of stuff on it, it could be an indication that something is going wrong?
