OEM keyless entry?

Hello every one.

I come today with another odd question.

I have come across a older keyless entry unit for a 2004/2005 impreza WITH the fobs!

I was wondering if any on has installed a OEM keyless unit into a car that DOES NOT have keyless entry?

I can get the pin out for the keyless entry unit without issue.

Would you think that i would need something special to make this work?
I KNOW that it would be a pure custom install really. Also i do not have the connector. SO pins or hard wiring will be done in that case
Also might want to add an alarm some how also?
I will be installing this IF possible into a 1993 legacy SS from USA NOT Canada.

Thoughts???

That seems like it would be a lot of work to make it work.
I'm thinking there might be another system that that unit works with to actually move the door actuators?

I installed a keyless system into my 91.
I have central door locks (door actuators on 3 doors, none on the drivers door).
It cost me $15 for the keyless entry and $5 for a door actuator on eBay:
My keyless system:

You can even add remote keyless trunk (if it's a sedan). Just need a relay and another actuator.

Door actuator:

I also bought a beeper:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1XHigh-decibel-9 ... 58bc5e38c8
The brain has 2 spots for the lights to hook up to. Used one for the lights, and the other to the beeper.
Gives off a similar sound to the Subaru's and Toyota's lock and unlocking.

If you want an alarm, perhaps something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Way-Car-Vehic ... 419ad5e3dc

Just mount the door actuator, run the wiring, and mount the brain somewhere under the kick panel.

Here is a video I made after I installed it.
It's before I had the beeper and was using the old alarms siren instead:

And inside the door panel:

This write up might be helpful if you do decide to go this route:

I know it's not exactly what you want, but, for the price and the ease of the install, I think it's probably a better way to go.

You know....Now that i actually think about it.

Ya its sorta too much work.

I just like the tear drop key fobs really!

Just wanna try to be OEM as possible BUT on ebay you can find EVERYTHING basically!

The one type im lookin at:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Newest-Car-1-Wa ... 3a&vxp=mtr

Its basically the same as what you have there 10wrxing but with an alarm in it.

Thanks for all the excellent info!

That system you posted looks to have the same fob as my system does.
It's pretty close to the OEM ones you posted, however, instead of the Subaru logo, it has the trunk release button, or an alarm signal button. (From my experience, it's just the picture, and they both control the remote trunk release).
You can see here how mine looks:

You can see here how this remote has the alarm button instead:

Now, I do know on mine I can program other remotes to it. I believe up to 4.
I have a 2010 WRX, and was going to try my original remotes from it (exact same ones you have) on the Legacy, but, since it doesn't have the remote trunk (it's a hatch), I haven't bothered.

Well when it comes to OEM subaru tear drop remotes.

On the early models that got them, to program them to the car was done via the cars door lock system.

So anyone could do this. Thats why i have the control unit and fobs for an 04-05 impreza.

The later years of the tear drop remotes were programmed with the ssm.

NOTE.
If for some reason you have an old OLD fob with the 2 buttons that are gray or blue/orange, you cant get those any more.

You can get a tear drop key fob as a replacement.

And yes the ebay remote start key fobs look the most oem looking i can find!

They look good to me!

I believe you can program the brain on the eBay system I have.
But, like I said, I haven't tried.
So, you may be able to control the brain from the Subaru remote you already have.

I have a Compustar alarm installed in my WRX, so I think if I tried to use my remotes, I would be controlling both the WRX and the Legacy's doors at the same time....
The remotes I have are identical to the ones you posted in the op.

As others have pointed out, I would recommend going with an aftermarket system. Trying to get an OEM system to work is going to be a nightmare, especially if it ties into an immobilizer controller.
