What to change in an EJ22M?

Hi guys

I have extracted an EJ22M from a car and it's going into another 1st gen which has a body in better condition.

The thing is that this is my first time tinkering with an engine and I'm trying to do it right the first time and learn a lot in the process.

So those of you that can shed a light on the matter: What should I change/replace/look out for in this well used and old engine? I'm trying to do this on a reasonable budget.

I will be changing the timing belt, spark plugs and leads. Anything else?

With great thanks from Iceland.

Welcome to the BBS!

There are several threads like this out there so I'd recommend searching as well.

How many miles/kilometers are on the motor?

Depending on age and mileage I would suggest the following items:
  • Timing belt & idler pullies/gear
    Water pump
    Front crank oil seal
    Front cam oil seals
    Rear cam o-ring
    Valve cover gaskets & grommets
Rear oil separator plate if it's plastic (replace with metal one)
Rear crank oil seal if it's leaking. If it's not leaking you may want to leave it alone
Normal wear items like spark plugs, wires, PCV valve, & filters

Thank you so much. It's kind of difficult being a newbie in this sort of thing so I'll try to read up on this as much as I can along with using the list you just gave me.
