hey guys,
So a bit of a dilemma: I'm in the middle of a 3" TBE install, currently have the catback section removed. Won't have a chance to complete it till I have more time over weekend, but would like to use the wagon during the week to run an errand.
Came up with a temporary solution, consisting of a 3" turn-down just after downpipe. Don't mind the sound, but would like to know if this is safe to do, as a temporary solution.
My hope is the turn-down will help avoid "burning the undercarriege" from what I've read up on WRX's running simply open DP. Maybe help a bit with directing fumes down and back too.
Bottom line, is this a safe n sound temporary solution? Or am I asking for more trouble than its worth. Appreciate any input.

Open DP with turn-down, safe to drive?

Loud, but not dangerous at all. I've ran open downpipe without a turndown for quite a while before.

maybe not for the car, but gawwdd dam my ears!! ssoooo loudAlphius wrote:Loud, but not dangerous at all. I've ran open downpipe without a turndown for quite a while before.
fully regret driving to work today, in lieu of a short neighborhood test drive.. apparently prolonged exposure to such loud noise can cause irreversible damage to ears. and they've been hurting all day so far. wonder if turndown only made it worse as far as sound, by bouncing it off ground instead of straight back.
found some earplugs for drive home, and fully plan to NOT drive again till either stock catback is on or the new TBE. power wise maybe slight gain at ~4k rpm, for small loss in torque down low. but aint worth it to run like this for unnecessary auditory complications

Ha ha, I drove 15 or so miles like that with Alphius driving behind. In addition to being deafened myself, he said his truck's floorboards were vibrating with the noise lol.

I drove my swapped 99 for a couple days with an open catless bellmouth as well, it made my eyeballs vibrate.

They are loud and all, but there is nothing like open headers (or in this case open DP ) at WOT, it's music!
