6mt swap into 93 SS

Post by Maxman »

New to the group, although I've used this to gather information for years. My 5 speed quit on my 93SS last weekend and ive decided to go for the 6 speed swap. I'm eyeing a 2007 legacy GT spec B, with the EZ engine, 6mt. Its about $1000 cheaper than the STI 6mt, and lacks the DCCD. I can't find any concrete details about how or if it will bolt up. Will an EZ transmission bolt to an early EJ motor? Has anyone done this swap before? What problems will I run into?

From what I've read, it fits the same as the STI 6mt.
The STI dccd can't be retrofitted, but you can swap in a front LSD from rallyspec or other sources.

Downside to that particular Spec-B trans, and different from the USDM Spec-B 6mt, is it has a short top gear.

I did it. Bought a 6 speed for a EZ30r for 1100 with a warranty. It looks like everything will bolt up. Planning on using a 2004 wrx clutch and flywheel. I have to add a stud to the transmission for the starter to work and male-male 4th gen legacy front axles. My rear end and drive line both look like they will work as well. Just waiting on parts at this point.

Did it have a speed sensor on the trans?

The trans doesn't have a speed sensor installed, but it can be retrofitted. Or there is a product called VSSPRO that can feed your ecu a signal from the ABS sensors. I haven't seen anyone on the BBS use vss pro however.
