Keyless Entry?

Just wondering if anyone here has added keyless entry to their vehicle. I would've posted in the electronics forum, but there isn't one. I just love the keyless entry feature of my fiancee's '00 RS and would love to have that feature on my car. I've seen a few of the generic keyless entry packages out there but am hesitant because I wouldn't know how to install it. So...anyone have any experience with this?

On the first gen legacies keyless entry is a little more complex.
The way the power locks work, require the addition of an extra actuator type setup.
You know how if you turn the key a certain distance it will only open drivers door....and if you turn it further it opens all the doors. Well what you would have to do is get one of those power door lock acutators.....about $20 or so. Hook it up to the rod that connects to the door locks, adjust everything so that when the actuator opens it pushes the lock mechanism far enough to unlock all the doors.
Then you would just run the wires for the actuator back through the door wiring and into the keyless entry setup.
piece of cake

Hey,
I'm a retired installer as many of you may or may not know. Yes all subaru door locks are difficult to interface but as legacy777 said it can be controlled using an actuator in the door. If you have any mechanical inclining you should be able to instal one. Also the keyless entry systems are a piece of cake to hook up wire wise. You have constant power, ignition power, and a ground. The only hard part is wiring up 2 relays to work the "5 wire" door lock circut to control the actuator in the door. This could take some time to explain and maybe even a quick drawing. Let me know if you want the extra info, I'll be glad to draw something up quick.

I'd love to get some more info. I've taken the door panels off before and have looked around in there. I'd like to give it a go if you could provide some info, like the wiring connections needed and what parts I'd need. TIA.

I'm also interested in one day doing this for my wagon. Especially if I decide its not worth trying to fix the driver's side door lock (just spins around right now)

I figured there would be other people interested in this mod, that's why I started the thread. Hopefully more light will be shed on this subject.

My second legacy had this, I was so glad to remove the crap. I have a real bad feeling towards aftermarket alarms and keyless entry (stereos too).
Make sure you find a good installer, there is nothing worse than buying a car full of electrical problems because the previous owner thought he was a master mechanic. It also sucks when the door panels are all torn up from people who dont know how to remove them.
