brwn trans fluid : was Synthetic tranny oil : recommends?

thanks for the info re: redline.

I found something disturbing today...check'd the trans dipstick and
the fluid is a light shade of brown. I've only had the car for about
3months...the fluid was pink at time of purchase.

is the tranny doomed?


car info:
-91 awd wgn
-79K mileage
-5speed MT
-shifts ok, light "whine" in first gear only

Find a local dealer/GOOD trans shop & have the trans pan dropped & check the magnet for debris. If the pan looks clean, have the whole system flushed. Check the fluid regularly after that & pay attention to how the trans shifts under all conditions. If it seems normal and the fluid stays the proper color, you`ll probably be ok. Been there-paid for that-got the t-shirt!--ROD (Az.)
