buying 94 Turbo Sport - things to look for

I am looking at a 94 turbo sport...And am trying to make a list of
potential problems/things to look for as I am checking it out...I
would be grateful for any info on problems that may tend to plague
these cars...IE sunroof leaks etc...
Also, what is involved in turning up the boost on these...to I need
to intercool it to turn it up at all? How does one turn up the
boost, do I need an aftermarket boost controller? How far can I go
w/ or w/o an intercooler w/o doing serious work on the internals?
Thanks so much...I just rolled my 97 GT, and had been looking for a
turbo for a while anyway, I can't wait to join the club!

Hey, read your post on the i-club forums (i'm DLC).

Sunroof, leaks, odd engine noises when cold and warm, steering
wobbling, etc...

13psi is the fuel cut on these. I'm running 11-13, non-intercooler,
with an Apex-i AVC-R. It's never given me any problems, even when
spiking to 13PSI on the autocross course.

Intercoolers are available, but if you want a good one, you have to
be willing to spend some money.

Check my page, Legacy Central, for info on the turbos. I'm
progressing down the road of mods on my wagon.

Ask as many questions as you can stand, but search the archives first.

My only problems have been a seat belt retractor that won't retract
or extend all the way (in the process of having a local dealership
look at it because I've been told SoA will sometimes take care of
those things since they are safety issues), I accidentally
disconnected a small hose in the engine compartment during a cleaning
once which then caused all sorts of lurching and hesitations, found
it, reconnected it, no more problem. I have heard of people saying
that the tranny is the weak link, and I will say that I have ground
the gears when going from 1st to 2nd during spirited driving, but
it's been maybe 3 times in 5 years, and it's only when I've been
driving in stop and go traffic for hours (i.e. HOT tranny/clutch,
etc.) I told the dealership about it, they theorized that it was a
master/slave cylinder relationship and one or the other wasn't
releasing all the way when I applied the clutch, dunno, I'm not
mechanical enough, but the bottom line was that I could get it all
fixed when I have the clutch replaced for about $1,200.00. The clutch
itself is fine, I think, so that's a ways off. I have had no problems
with the moonroof. The radio antenna will get hung up going down
sometimes, but a little WD40 fixes that. These are great cars. Dave
C. is a great source, I watch his web site for updates. I will
probably do the intake and boost controller thing sometime, once he
decides what he likes best. Good luck. I may sell mine soon, dunno.
