Subject: Re: [BC-BFLegacyWorks] Awd rear spring cups
Josh-sorry for the delay, but I had to drive the car for a few miles to give you an honest evaluation. I have the B&G springs ordered thru Shox.com that lower the car 1.5" all around & just love the change! The STI upper mounts (ordered thru Cobb Tuning) were correct for the front & not the rear. The rear upper mount needs the spring cap as part of the unit or it won`t fit. If I had it to do again, I`d just order the fronts from STI and the rears from Subaru for my specific model. My installer had to go to a salvage yard & buy the whole strut assemblies to get the correct upper mounts. Make sure you talk to someone knowledgeable as to what brand of springs you`re getting as the ones originally quoted by Shox were`nt even available for the 90-94 Legacies (hence the B&G`s). I`m very happy now that it`s done. Oh, check the rear springs carefully BEFORE you order to make sure you get the correct ones. The Legacies have no specific spring for either domestic or Japanese-made cars (as it turns out!) The non-adjustable KYB`s are awesome with these springs. The set-up is agressive enough to preclude a rear sway bar (I don`t autocross), but I will be upgrading all the rear bushings in the near future. My projects next week include the installation of a turbo-timer/boost gauge, new fuel pump & tranny cooler & filter kit. A complete valve body modification will happen in the next few months. THEN an air-to-air intercooler will be custom fitted by a local genius who did the fabrication on my necessary turbo piping blended into my Borla headers. As I said before, what an incredible difference! My installer estimates @ 6.5 lbs. of boost, I should be making around 230-250 HP. I can`t remember having so much fun! Anyhoo---questions concerning the springs are welcome anytime.---ROD (AZ.)

Rod that's interesting info. I know my 90 was made in Japan, (actually
89 it was manufact) It does have the rear tapered springs. Are the
FWD suppose to have tappered springs, or are the AWD suppose to? and is
there any pro's or cons? I was maybe looking to get a set of lowering
springs maybe from teague's, but not sure, but it probably won't happen
for a while, but am curious to what problems I'll run into.
thanks
Josh

Subject: [BC-BFLegacyWorks] Awd rear spring cups
HELP! Just found out today from Brian @ B&G spring that a U.S. made AWD
legacy will probably have FWD-type springs in the rear (non-tapered).
Such is the case with mine; the tapered, JDM-type rear springs are
correct for the car if made in Japan. He believes that because mine was
made in Indiana, that I have a different set of rear springs & spring
cups. Is there ANYONE out there that has these cups from a Japanese
Legacy? If you`ve recently put on coilovers do you need those cups to
complete the install? Does anyone know where to get these a.s.a.p. as
the exhaust work will be done by this Friday & I`ll need them then? I`ll
pay overnight freight + reasonable cost for a set of these. Please call
me tonight or early A.M., collect if you can help;
