Can anyone help me with an oil leak. I wonder how hard a job it is to
replace the right hand side cam cover gasket? Do I have enough room
to get the cover off without removing anything else.

Thanks Russ.

'92 legacy turbo huh? i have the same car with about the same
problem. the front oil seal leaks just enough to drip back down onto
the exhaust and cause smoking. i leak at the most 1/4 of a quart of
oil a week. that's driving it hard. so i'd like to hear some
comments on this myself. if a garage were to do it what should i
expect to pay, ballpark figures?

I am just about to to do this. I think it is fairly straight forward,
and everything can be removed from underneath the vehicle. start with
the exhaust heatshields and headers, all bolts accessible from
underneath. then unbolt the sparkplug caps.I believe the covers will
come off next, but havent got this far. Note that you must also
replace the spark plug hole gaskets too.

PS are you getting a burning smell from oil dripping on the exhaust?

cheers

Eddy.

As I recall the seals cost me about $400 to have a garage do them. However I also got a timing belt at the same time...

400 smackers eh? pretty expensive considering the cost of the
gaskets are probably only around 20 bones... i think i have my leak
pretty much pinpointed and was really contemplating just getting some
good sealant and sealing the sucker up. the leak is caused by the
gasket being pinched out of where it should lie. 400 smackers.....

Legacy 4 Cam Turbo 1992 Cam cover oil leak.

Hi, my subaru is '92 Legacy Sport Turbo (auto, 118,000 mile)

About 2 months ago I've tried to replace spark plugs and wire myself.
But, I found there's some leaking oil in one of four spark plug holes.
I tried to wipe it out but figured out that it was useless and sth
could be more serious.

I got to go auto shop and they diagonosed and replaced 'valve cover
gasket'.
I think this is the same problem with you friends.

Good weekends,

-yushin
