eliminating second cat...

I want to kill the second cat. just because. what I'm wondering is, what's the best way to go about it? my current plan consists of unbolting it from the DP section, dremmeling off the cat, calmping on a new straight 2.25 pipe, and clamping a flange onto that. si there any reason I can't do this? is the cat on a bent piece of pipe? it looks straight back from teh flange with a bend right afterwards.

Are you eliminating the first one as well? I know Subaru uses a two-stage cat system, which divides the different catalytic properties into two separate units. You might not have full catalytic functionality if you remove one of the units.
Although I could be completely wrong about this.

I'll plant a tree to make up for it

. I'm going catless eventually anyways.

Then why not just eliminate both of them while you're at it? I was not knocking your intent, just wondering why you would get rid of one but not the other.

Do you have any idea how long this will take?
I've done a little half ass exhaust work in the past and I can tell you that a torch is the only thing that cuts through pipe quickly. I use a high speed cut off wheel (zip wheel) that runs off my compressor and it is still a very slow process. I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm just letting you know that its not going to happen with a dremel tool. Well good luck if you try it anyway, and dont forget to time the project for me

A hacksaw would be just fine, sawsall better.

But is can be done with a dremel, I'd guess.

boost - how should I get rid of the DP cat? I can't afford a new DP and IIRC gutting it screws with the flow. is it turbulent enough in there anyways that it won't matter? cause I'd love an excuse to gut it

.
mike - I have a large amount of free time and a good deal of patience

. when I don't ahve the right tools, I make due. a friend of mine has a sawzall and it took me all of 15 seconds to slice through some muffler pipe when I was puttig a WRX muffler on my TS. I wish I had that handy but alas I dont

.
I suppose another option is just gutting both pipes the best I can, and letting any other little bits find their way out

. I have no muffler to get in the way. I can steal a power drill from work and some drill bits to punch some holes in it, then use a hammer and tie rod puller (AKA pickle fork) to bash down the rest. but then I have no backup pipes for inspection.

How's about having the muffler shop that made your straight pipe weld on some piping from the DP flange to the straightpipe section.
I'm not an advocate for gutting a cat as the materials in the cat are quite carcinogenic . . . ugh!
Igg, when we had to work on a friend's LR Discovery we used a reciprocating saw on the exhaust pieces . . . oh my, cut like a warm knife thru butta!!

oh yes. forgot about that part

.
Maybe then I'll just wait till I get a DP-back straightpipe made. since I'm the muffler shop that made tha catback straightpipe

. there doesn't appear to be an easy way about it.
