boost creep???

the car: 92 legacy turbo
the problem?: i've recently noticed a very slight pull or tug if you
will while driving with the accelerator at a constant position and
was wondering if this is boost creep or not. you see, i'll be going
about 60 and then the car just seems to pull a little faster and a
little faster and so on. it's not bogging or anything and i was just
wandering if this was my boost creeping in or if it had something to
do with the knock sensor. i just recently noticed it and it's not
really noticeable unless you look for it. anyone experinence this?

way, what is the cheapest guage and boost controller i could get?
i've read on other cars that you can controll the boost with just a
simple valve put in a tee configuration off the wastegate controller
is this the same with all turbo's? for the guage i'm guessing just a
mechanical needle guage would do, but how am i to read that going
down the road at 70? any suggestions:)?

,for boost gauge, i have a VDO type. Shows vaccum and positve pressure, Was
about $65 Aus. In the gauges test done it also came out with very good
accuracy. I have it fitted in the 'blank' next to the cigarette lighter.
Fits perfectly.
As for boost controller, i have a chip. It replaces the 'bleed valve' setup
i used to have.
cheers, rod ..in OZ

the bleed valve, would that be what i was talking about? i just got
done reading a piece about an eclipse or some rice thingy and the guy
just put an aquarium type valve in for a boost controller. would
that work?

before you do any boost mods the boost gauge is very important, actually a
must..
the bleed valve i had is similar to one on the site www.turbosmart.com.au
check it out.
The chip is much better.

ok, i'm almost there. now the VDO guage you have, how does it work?
is it off of pressure or is it electrical? if it is off of pressure
from the pressure hose going to the wastegate the my next question
is, would the hose length you run to the guage from the pressure hose
have any effect on what the guage reads? i promise i'll quit bugging
you real soon. thanks

boost creep???

mike,
the VDO boost gauge I have is NOT the electrical type. The hose connection
for the boost gauge should NOT come off ex the wastegate. It actually comes
from the inlet manifold. There a few small hoses to choose from. Take one of
these off, fit a 'T' connection and then run it to your gauge. The hose
length shouldn't really make any difference as the hose dia size supplied
with the gauge is tiny.
Rod... in OZ
ps it's ok to bug me......... lol..

boost creep???

ok for now i went and picked up a cheap pressure guage for about $8.
now the inlet manifold eh? ok, i'm looking at my haynes here, um,
could you maybe suggest a hose? i.e. air bypass hose, egr vacuum
hose, vacuum hose..... since i thought it should come off the
wastegate i'm kinda hesitate as to which hose i should even
consider. the haynes manual has a section for checking the boost and
the wastegate but the pic looks like the hose is coming from the
pressure exchange solenoid valve... it also says to connect it to
the intake pipe pressure hose.. i'm kinda stumped here. sorry, i
guess i'm a little thick on turbos yet...

boost creep???

ok, how about this hose, the by-pass valve vacuum hose? it's the
hose that runs from the air by-pass valve into the intake manifold
(i'm sure you already knew that though:) if i were to tee into that
for my boost guage would it work? i hope so. it's the closest thing
to were i want to run the hose through the firewall into the cockpit.
