Spoon's cooler progress

Air-to-water cooler retrofit program officially underway
What started out as a promise to myself to intercool before fitting the
electronic boost controller from my old GL-10 1.8 L turbo wagon has
frankensteined.
However, after years of procrastination, months of research, and weeks of
parts source chasing, I feel like I have really made some progress in the
past couple of weeks.
About two months ago I obtained the first and easiest piece of my system, a
windshield washer bottle which I plan to convert to an additional reservoir,
but I didn't really count that because they are so plentiful.
My first official parts payment went out about 3-1/2 weeks ago to J.C. Sports
for one of their nifty newly designed aluminum expansion tanks to replace the
plastic one that I patched about 2 years ago, which is leaking worse every
day. I could have had one of the old designs by now but, I wanted the new
design with the fittings repositioned so as not to interfere with an
intercooler installation. The welder has been sick, but should be OK now,
and I expect my tank to ship next week.
My first actual BIG IMPORTANT acquisition that I can actually see, touch,
smell, and taste, is the cooler itself I bought today...a silver one in good
shape from Outback Motorsports, in Buena Park, California, about 20 minutes
drive from where I work. I elected not to take the ducting because I don't
know what turbo I'm going to use yet. Oh yeah, that's the Frankenstein part.
I'm looking at different turbos because the stock one is oriented wrong for
the cooler and really isn't engineered to maintain it's efficiency at the
boost levels I want to achieve anyway. If I end up going with the offshore
stock turbo the ducting that comes with the cooler will be great. If I go
with the turbo I really want, we'll have to fall off that bridge when we come
to it.
Next time I check in, I hope to have either a pump, an intercooler radiator,
a turbo, or a combination of the three.
