Will GC8 Header and turbo downpipe fit 91-94 Legacy turbo???

Hi Ben,

Most of the info I have indicate the WRX 2.0 engine and the USA 2.2 Turbo Legacy engine to be nearly identical in external dimensions, and the exhaust components to be interchangeable.

However, I too am looking for headers and hope to find a pre-owned set. I put the same question to Middleton Rally Team (MRT) Performance since they are the only place I know of that makes equal length tuned headers for our engines. I received the following reply from another Ben, one of the tech reps at MRT;

Hi Larry.

Thanks for your inquiry - it is good to hear from you again.

The extractors should fit to your engine without too many dramas at all.
There is very minimal difference between your 2.2L engine and the previous
(and current) versions of the EJ20T in external size. Internal specs are
another matter though.

Please note that the extractors should really only be considered if you are
running in excess of 18 psi, have a full exhaust system, revise intake,
larger intercooler, larger aftermarket turbo and programmable engine
management. Without these things there is no point having them fitted, as
you will see no benefit at all and in some cases can actually lose low end
torque.

Without the above modifications made, the standard extractors are not the
most restrictive part of the system (i.e., the other things need to be changed
first before you will see any performance improvement from changing the
extractors).

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards
Ben

Hi-keep in mind that Borla still makes headers for our cars. Make sure they`re the "series one" item for the early Legacies. They`re stainless steel, equal length & can be fitted with custom up & down pipes as mine were. It`ll be alot cheaper than custom-made headers & just as effective. Hope this helps---ROD (AZ.)
