My email system doesn't receive attachments. I can never read your emails.
Can you put it in text form first and then send it?

Would you guys happen to have the part # of the STI Short Shift Kit for our
car? My local dealer is trying to tell me that they don't even make one for
my car! They said they only have one for the WRX.
How much did the installation cost?
thanks guys

Jason got to it before me but I second his opinion,
just to defer any confusion it is called both the STi
short shift kit and the Subaru Performance Tuning
short shift kit. It is also the entire linkage, not
just the upper bar.

I don't have the part number off the top of my head,
but I do know that the same STi linkage fits any subar
made after 1990, at least up too the 2000 model year
and I don't think that they changed the linkage in the
WRX. As far as installation goes, Jason did his on his
own, I tried but chickened out and ended up paying
somewhere along the lines of 100 for 2 hours labor,
I'm sure Jason will give you a step by step if you
asked him nicely.

Well if you are able to get the part # some how it would be greatly
appreciated. The dealer said that the WRX short shifter wouldn't work on my
car but they don't seem to know anything and you are probably right but I need
to know for sure. Are the gears a lot closer and notch free with that
shifter?

That is the link from SubaruParts.com for the STi
kit... this is the place that both Jason and I
purchased it from. Still no part number though. These
guys are pretty trustworthy and will try to accomodate
you.

I believe that the STI short shifter actually makes the shifts
more "notchy". I haven't tried one, so this is hearsay, bu I
understand its developed w/ rally in mind, and rally shifters tend to
have a rather strongly gated and notchy feel. If you are looking for
a smooth shifter, something more track orientated, go for the syms.
Its available at www.spomotorsports.com I assume that if the STI
fits, it will to, as it is also a complete linkage assembly.

i think the part number is c1010fa000. They may tell you that it is only for
the impreza, but it does fit the Legacy - as jay and i have proven. Just
dont tell them you're buying it for your legacy.

I installed it myself. It took me 2 hours in the dark by myself. It was easy
for me because i'm handy with a wrench. If you don't feel up to the task,
your dealership may charge you an hours worth of time for it. If you are
going to install it yourself, make sure you keep track of the spring and the
pin. You'll know what i'm talking about. Good luck!

Yeah, but the only reason i got it there is because that's where i worked at
the time. Knowing what i know about them (vendor bashing here) they really
do take too long and their shipping people are incompetent and underpaid =
bad shipping.

>PS: looks like the price dropped too

I'd rather pay the extra money because the service overall is lacking.

I have my personal recommendations, but that's because they sponsor my rally
team. :)

Thanks for all the info guys it looks like I might be purchasing one. Now
what I want to know about is the feel!!! Now Micum (hasn't tried it but) said
it would be more notchy than stock! So I want to hear from Jay and Jason on
this. Do you agree with that statement? I BROKE BOTH of my WRISTS in '98 so
I want to know what I'm getting myself into. So are gear changes a lot
quicker, smoother, more notchy, and done with more or less effort that the
stock shifter??? I already know you guys like it but I want to know why do
you like it?

I believe that the STI short shifter actually makes the shifts
more "notchy". I haven't tried one, so this is hearsay, bu I
understand its developed w/ rally in mind, and rally shifters tend to
have a rather strongly gated and notchy feel. If you are looking for
a smooth shifter, something more track orientated, go for the syms.
Its available at www.spomotorsports.com I assume that if the STI
fits, it will to, as it is also a complete linkage assembly.

My opinion is that it is quite a bit quicker, It is
more "notchy" than the original but I like the fact
that it makes it feel more precise. As far as effort
goes I would have to say it is negligible.

I have another friend who had it installed on her Impreza. She had wrist
problems with it at first; but after a month, there wasn't a problem.

I like it because the throw is cut to about half. MUCH quicker. anyone who
likes driving a manual must have a short-throw shifter as far as i'm
concerned. :) By the way, the old part number ends in "000" the new ones
ends in "001". There is no real difference between the two kits.

How the heck did you break both of your wrists? Was it at the same time?
