Automatic Seatbelt in 1994 Turbo Sedan

Hello everybody. Just thought I would share my experiences with the
automatic seatbelt on the driver's side of my car. It went bad about
4-6 months ago. It would move a little, 3 inches maybe, but never
fully extend or retract to it's correct position. It was always
generally by the side of my head. After getting advice from Edmunds
Subaru Crew, this board, and one or two others, it looked like I had
a chance at having this covered under some sort of unspoken safety
warranty. So, armed with a case # from Subaru of America, I called my
dealer and they wanted to call SoA themselves, to "see what they
should do", then they wanted to see the car to "determine what parts
needed to be replaced, and if SoA would still agree to absorbing the
costs" (CYA, in my opinion). Finally, without much being said to me,
I got a notice that my parts were in, made an appointment and, as of
yesterday afternoon, I have a brand new seatbelt motor assembly.
I am telling you this because it's now obvious to me that, no matter
how good a relationship you have with your dealer, they still get
defensive when it comes to warranty work on a nearly 8 year old car.
And rightly so. Frankly, I'm amazed it worked. I think the contact
with SoA helped greatly. So, if yours break, start with SoA, get a
case # and contact name, and start the process. Why not?
