hydraulic lifters vs solid lifters

Is it possible to swap out EJ20 hydraulic lifters for a set of solid
lifters? I know they've made EJ20 w/ both? would you need to swap
the whole head, not just the lifters (and cams maybe?)?

No you don't need to replace the entire head, the reason I change the
head is the 1997-1998 Outback heads have larger buckets which give
you more flexiblilty with your cam profiles. You can get an
engineering shop to make a set of solid lifters to replace your
hydraulic type.
