Hi guys,

I got a price quote from Richard Buckner on how much it would cost to convert my 93' Legacy Touring Wagon to a 5spd manual.. Here is what he sent me. Maybe it will help some of you, who might be interested. I'm still not quite sure what I'm going to do..All i know is I better start saving :)

5 speed out of a Legacy or Impreza with 4.11 final drive
matching rear final drive
pedal assembly
shifter equipment/assembly
This trans will will not be an actual Turbo "pull type", it will be a push type. These are less expensive and readily available. The guts are basically identical. The lower final drive, ( you have 3.90's now), will give you better acceleration and it will relieve stress on the gears. The ECU will need to be wired to M/T and a starter relay will need to be installed. The used trans should be rebuilt, new bearings and synchros.

Cost?
trans. $850.00
rebuild $875.84 parts
diff., shifter, & misc. $450.00
clutch, P/P, Disk, T/O bearing $275.00
labor, R&R trans, rebuild, rewire, swap diffs. $750.00
total $3200.54

I would recommend a HD pressure plate and a new flywheel. I have been
there and done this! and it really gets expensive doing it over and
over again. A stock Imprezza clutch did not last very long for me and
when I replaced it the flywheel was resurfaced, this started a chain
of events that had me replacing everything again in less than a year.
When the flywheel is resurfaced the entire clutch assy is "moved "
forward a few mm this distance is multiplied by the clutch lever and
the linkage to make it impossible to disengage the clutch all the way
and this will take out the syncros and then everything including the
clutch can be replaced again. This experience cost me well over
4000.00.
