I'd like to do an intercooler setup at some point. I'm not opposed to
a air/water setup but I am leaning towards a air/air top mount. I
think that some of the wrx stock top mount intercoolers fit, is this
true? If so, are any modifications required to make the stock wrx
intercooler and piping fit on a legacy? Finally I've seen some deals
on MY02 wrx intercoolers, will these fit? I've heard they are quite a
nice peice.

Turbos.
I've just started researching but this is something to think about too.
As above, will wrx turbos bolt to legacy exhaust manifolds and
downpipes?

The problem with puting an intercooler on top like a wrx is that you will
get no power from a set of traffic lights really fast. Maily because there
is no air passing through while siting waiting for the lights to go green so
you can kick the cars a$$ next to you. It gathers up to much heat and when
you stand on the gas you get a sudden rush of hot air thet the engine has
produced under the bonnet as well. This is the problem with WRX's and not
liberty's. I have an article some were that is about all of this. They
turned the WXR unit into a air to water unit and the temperature stayed a
lot cooler while not on the go and had identical temp while they uped it.
With the smaller scoop on the liberty (legacy I would be more inclined to
leave the air to water unit. The other option I would go for would be to
wind the boost up a couple of psi and fit a front mount intercooler, at
least when your siting at those lights your fan kicks in and drags some air
through to keep it a bit cooler. Lots of dollars though. I will try to find
the article and try and explain it to you, or I will put it on my web page
which I have not given out the address yet.

If you add a front mount, you're going to add alot more turbo lag due to
more piping, plus it's ALOT of customizing work to get a front mount to
work.

Nope I think it was in a mag called Zoom or Hot 4's. If it was in Zoom it
would have most likely been on Autospeed because one ownes the other, don't
know which way around. I will have a look for the articlel.

i don't know if it's the same article you all are talking about but i
know for a fact that autospeed has a very good article on air/air and
air/water intercoolers and even a bit of a how to. i'll do a search
on autospeed here in a bit and try and get it... well actually i
have the pdf already downloaded. if someone wants to tell me how i
can put it in the files i'll gladly upload it.

I'm going to debate this. True, it will require a lot more customizing, but
adding a front mount will not nessacarily add a lot more turbo lag.

If you customize it correctly: that is - correct sizes with piping,
intercooler, turbo, fuel system, etc.; your lag will be minimal, almost
negligible. Again, lots of customizing, but your lag can be tuned out.
