Hi People, I have a 92 Legacy turbo in Toronto Canada and the car has
intercooler, AVC-R, AGX with stock spring, from lower arm bar, up
grade to 19mm rear swaybar ,3" brullen turbo back exahust system and
some of little mods.
But now my engine has a big problem, the crank bearing just wron out
and push the crank toward to the pully; it made the car dump oil as
hell, I took the car to the shop and the guy just very kind and
replace the crank seal to make the oil not leak yet and allow me to
drive until I find an engine to replace it!
Now one of my local used engine shop has the BC Legacy engine ,
should I get it or wait for the used WRX (GC8)engine for my car?
Which one worth it?

Get a B4 liberty (legacy) engine. With STI heads and forged pistons you
can't go wrong. They are half the price of STI items in Australia and a
little bit more then WRX. But saying all that it all comes down to dollars.
If you go ahead with a WRX or B4 motor I would go for the front cut as you
will get all the items you need. Some engine packages are missing some parts
so you might have to folk out more money then the original price for the
front cut.

I sure wish that we had the choice of engines that you people enjoy
here in the states but my EJ22t is a good motor. I have one tip on
your unfortunate bearing failure incident. I have a friend that has
been working on these motors for many years and he says that one minor
weak spot in these engines is that the thrust is taken by one bearing.
I can believe this as I aquired a spare motor that is low milage and
the only thing wrong with it is the thrust bearing. He says that to
help prevent this problem that a person should keep the disengagement
of the clutch to a minimum as the pressure will contribute to the wear
on this bearing. I have a high performance clutch that places even
more pressure on the bearing so I always pop it into neutral when
standing in traffic or at a light.

Thanks for your infomation, but do you know how much will be the cost
to replace or fix this problem??
BTW, I using the OEM clutch for more then 100000km on my car, I loves
my car and the engine performance thats why I still wants to keep
this car or even replace the engine and keep the car alive!

I would think that the problem could be fixed by replacing the bearing
and the other bearings should be replaced at the same time as I
think they come in a set. Other than that a complete gasket and seal
set would be needed. I checked the crankshaft and the cylinders in my
engine and they are almost perfect. The labor is probably the big
expense on a job like this as the motor has to be pretty well taken
apart to replace parts like these. Subaru also has a short block
assembly available that would cure the problem.

You are more limited with the B4 motor as nobody makes after market
chips for them.

Since my car is BC style, I don't think I will put an B4 engine on to
my car eventhough I know someone in Japan did the swap!
I would like to put the WRX or STi engine but depands on the cost of
the engine!

What do you need a chip for with that much power. Besides for the price of a
chip I would put an after market computer that can be tuned for every mod
that you make.

Because 286Hp is a lot less than 400-600Hp which you can get from the
WRX motor.
