Fuel Pump? or Relay?

Post by INCEv@webtv.net »

Personally, I would Check the fuel pump first. Its easier to get to and
to change. To check the fuel pump pull the electrical plug and check for
12V from the Relay. If there is no voltage don't panic the relay only
trips if it has a load to start. Pull pump from the tank(have some plugs
ready for the hoses, fuel will run. Use a 12V jumper wire (+ and -) find
the wires that go to the pump(I wouldn't be in the car when you test)
just touch the connections if there is nothing Its DEAD. :) My $.02 Dan

Fuel Pump? or Relay?

Thanks to everyone who posted advice on my fuel pump situation.
I had tested for fuel at the filter and had no flow whatsoever.I
checked the connector under the back seat ,it was ok and I had power.
I found power at the pump connector so I pulled the pump.
I tested it on the bench and found it was seized up.
There was some rust on bottom of the pump housing and also in the
pickup end.I didnt want to spend $300 plus on a new one
so I adapted a good pump from a 2ooo Dodge Caravan.
When I was finished it looked factory, making sure the total length
was the same.Once installed it started right up.(after draining the
tank and fresh fuel)After sitting for 2 years it runs well.
The best part is the pump was free, and the car is now worth the $100
I paid for it.

Good luck with that pump. The Dodge Caravan pump is NOTORIOUS for failing at
irregular intervals, as are most other mechanicals on the Dodge Caravan...
Doesn't that brighten your day? But hey, it saved you $300 right? What have
you got to loose...

-I should be ok with the Caravan pump.I work at the dealership,so I
have the potential for a good supply if this one fails.
Good Subaru parts are harder to come by here in Canada.
Maybe I can get a Jeep trans to fit too!
