BC5 vs EJ22T vs EJ20T for Ben

Post by ssspoon@aol.com »

Hey Ben,

I'm not sure, but I don't think the BC5 or EJ20 and EJ22 ECU's are compatible. Like I say, I'm not sure but you should try to find out from someone that has done the swap or the wiring harness problems can be a nightmare.

All in all, I say try real hard to put an EJ22T back in your car. Especially if you plan to stay with a turbo. Anything else will be more hassle. And the EJ22T is the best engine in my opinion. The only reason it's down on power is because it's detuned for the North America market. Detuning is the easiest thing to overcome.

Really Sincerely Yours,

Larry Witherspoon

The EJ20 and the EJ22 computers are not the same and I would not swap them.
It is not too hard to adapt the wiring harness to the EJ20 computer, only a
couple of wires are different but the have different mapping.

Bill,Larry and Mark; thanks for all your opinions, I am still in the
middle of swap or rebuild the engine!
The shop that I negotiate told me that they are the only 1 of 2 shop
in the city that do the rebuild the Subaru engine! He offer me that
he are using all the new parts on my EJ22T engine since there are no
aftermarket pistons to make for the EJ2T so he has to go from the
dealer also, he could do the port and polish if I ask they to do it
while rebuilding my engine and it has to add $300-$400 on top of the
rebuild. He also will inspect the turbo to see it has to rebuild or
not!!!
Mark, I know you use your car to rally and I also use my car to road
rally and winter rally too, what did you feel the different from the
EJ22T to EJ20T engine?? What do you recommend to do the swap or
rebuild?
BTW, what should I have to look into when they do the rebuild? I mean
what should I have to pay attantions on???
Does port and polish do help the hp grain??

Thanks for all yours opinions and help! All I want is my car back and
run!!
Ben

Hey Ben,
I went for the EJ20T due to the Group N factor. I also know that Suabru
parts in Canada are expensive! My local shop just did a re&re on a automatic
tranny and the tranny set the customer back over $3000 alone!. Nuts I said.
I figured of I was gonna spend the money anyways, I would go for the 2.0T.
Then I got into the rest of it and decided just to push through. Not many
members had done the full swap so advice came only from a few people. The
car runs very smooth around town, yet does haul A$@ when I want it to. I did
a lot of research to make it all happen.

My concern now that its all done is spare parts. I am starting to do
research to find out what parts are swappable between the new WRX and my
motor. If many parts are, I will be very happy, if not, I will be getting to
know some dealer in New Zealand or Austtralia, where our $$ is
compareable....

In the end, I would do it again. I have always told my friends here how the
rest of the world got the 'cool' parts, so I am putting my money where my
mouth is. You can do the swap for a reasonable amount of money. Probably in
the end about $3000 total without transmission. I am working on that for you
right now....
My .02 worth

Mark , thanks to looking for the engine for me, and I am really
appreciate your help!
Larry, thank for your opinion, I know that I still in the middle of
the decision because I would like to spand the equal amount of money
for the best I could get, also I know I don't have enough confidence
to push myself to either rebuild or swap, since the cost on both of
them are really close!!!
Maybe I am that kind of man that have too much worry in my mind so I
have to make the way clear before to hit the traget!!
But I am really thanks for your suggection and you are really hits to
my heart!!!
Thanks again Larry!!!

Ben

PS, Mark, once you have the price on the engine, could you count it
include the shipping cost to Toronto? Thanks

Broker: 2 meanings could be used A) a go-between in business deal ie middle man or in my case B) a customs broker who deals with the government on behalf of customer when importing and exporting and if you have a good broker, can save you money and arrange trucking for a cheap price.

I buy for my company and import product from all over the world, I have a customs BROKER who does all the importing for me.
