My alternator belt squeels when i turn the car on, and when i hit the brake it also squeels :( . Is this normal? Also when i hit about 3000 r.p.m.'s, my engine starts to make a clicking noise. I tightened all the bolts and nuts around the alternator and belt, but it still squeels. Do you think I need a new belt, or maybe just some belt spray?

yeah same here
all you need to do is to tighten the belt...
if you dont know how most mechanic shops/dealerships will do it for free

what bolts did you tighten/loosen.

You need to loosen the clamping bolt and pivot bolt a little.....then use the adjuster bolt.......if you did all this and it still squeals....replace belt.

Josh, is there any other way top 'lock' up the engine? I know you told me a certain way, but I just want to know if there is a different way to do it?

Tool from subaru......

chain wrench....however I don't recommend using one as it can damage the pulley.

Danny, if you have a manual transmission, you can just put the car in gear (reverse is probably best); that should keep the engine from moving.

You don't need to do this to just tighten up the accessory belts though.

If you've tightened the belts and there's still squeeling going on, it's most likely one of your accessories that's going kaput. I had the same problem with my alternator. The damn thing would keep squeeling so I'd tighten the belt up, spray it down with belt dressing, and the damn things would squeel again the next day. A few weeks later my alternator went out.

Are there any intermittent power steering loss? Unusually hard starts some mornings?

Josh told me a solution and I fixed it. It was my crank pulley that wasn't torqued tight enough. But thanks for the input :D
