Which Engine could fits to our car??

Post by ej22t »

Hi people , its me again and I would have to update some of the
information on my engine search!!
Just found an engine import shop that my friend working with them. He
told me that he would like to try to find an engine for me but I have
to let him know what kind of engine that I am looking for. He said
that he could get an 1st Gen.'s Legacy BC5 turbo engine or WRX engine
in good milage.
Now , I would think what version of WRX(GC8) engine could fits to our
BC5 Style Legacy, I know the Impreza (GC8) engine bay almost as the
same as the BC5 engine.
Isn't it only the Ver.I, II, III (Include STi) engine could fits to
the BC5 car?? since I have the air to air intercooler in my US spec.
Legacy and it just tightly fits on to my car and I know the Ver.IV
and after version's intercooler won't fits to my engine bay.
Isn't that means out car could just fits the Ver.I, ver.II and
ver.III WRX or STi engine?
Also if I finally use the 1st Gen. Legacy turbo engine, can I do the
intercooler swap like ust the Air to Air intercooler to repalace the
air to water intercooler???
Mark, which type of intercooler you are using? (air to air, or Air to
water??)

Hey Ben,
I have a Air to water intercooler on mine. I understand you can use any
motor up to 1997my. Im not sure what year this is but I understand that the
bolt pattern on the transmission changes after this. Please, someone correct
me (Brett??) Yes the impreza and legacy motors are the same in the rest of
the world (to N/A). I have no idea if my motor came from a impreza or
legacy, but the computer and all other bits came from a Legacy RS. You
*should* be able to use the AW intercooler on any of these motors.

As far as I know there are 8 holes pre 98 11 holes after 98. Stud pattern
that is. But if your gear box needs repair get after 98 because they are
stronger as they progressed.

I am pretty sure that at least in the states that the engine bolt
pattern remained the same but in '99 the ver III transmission was
introduced but it was mid year before the additional bolt holes
appeared but it would still bolt up to the early engine. I have a
transmission out of a '99 Legacy GT that is a ver III transmission but
is an early '99 and has the standard bolt pattern but it is a verIII
and has the new syncros. (works great)

Thanks everyone for replying to this topic and I would like to ask
about is if I accidently get the Ver.IV engine will the intercooler
could still fits to the car? Since I had an Ver.IV intercooler before
and I am for sure it won't fits. There are only Ver.III or before
intercooler could fits to our car(the one sits little bit off angle)
I am now thinking to get the Ver.II or Ver.III WRX or STi engine from
Japan, does anyone know the engine code # like EJ207,
EJ22G...something like that, since I did read lots of Subaru magz and
books but I still can't identify those engine code # for which model
of WRX.
Yep, right now I'm seems going to getting the WRX engine except if
the shop that can't find me one or the one it won't fits to my car
then I will back to BC Legacy engine!!!
