I have heard that noisy tappets is often a weak oil pump. As for those hydraulic valve lash adjusters, is there such a thing as a higher performance version of those? When I think of spiffing out the EJ22T heads, I'm not talking $5,000, but I might go for $500 or so in machine work etc. What I would like to know is what could a halfway competent head rebuilder do that would eliminate the most obvious flow restrictions and give is the most bang for the buck? I am not a drag racer, I just want to have a street car with about 275bhp at the flywheel without spending a ton of money on an old car. Let's get a discussion going on this subject..

Bill-check out www.paeco.com for mild to wild headwork; the basic work is about $400, I believe, & you can go up from there. I`d request a printed catalogue (I have one & it`s great) for the real low-down. BTW, they will be doing my new stroker motor late next year including headwork, ceramic coatings, etc. Their headwork should be more than adequate for your application.
