lots of boost

So, the other day I had a little run-in with a silver WRX on the highway, and with my cheap ass boost controller, I was gettin 22+psi. It blew my turbo-ic hose right off after a couple of seconds, but A/F showed green, and I heard no detonation!! :shock:
For as little as the VF 11 is, that's pretty impressive, I definitely need a 255lph fuel pump, because the car hauls ass over 20psi!

BTW, if you're gonna run those boost levels, make sure that you change the injectors as well. Remember that they're maxed at anything over 15-16psi (or at least mine are)

Of course, I know you're gonna change the turbo at those boost levels, too, right?

I'm just gonna stick with 15-16psi for now until I get some money saved up, then who knows... :D

you're just out of that turbo's effenciency range. save your $$ and get a bigger turbo so you can keep the same PSI and flow more air.

Save up about $700 to get a TD05-16G and a set of Legacy TT Injectors (376cc IIRC). These will go well with your 255lph fuel pump. Then all you'll need is a remappable ecu like Kelly... $1400+... but you'll be developing unbelievable power!

22 psi is alot of boost for this block even with the right engine management, turbo, intercooler etc. that is why I am building a new engine right now. aprox 2.6 ltrs w.vvt heads. but that's another story. I am running 15 psi with a vf 23. its enough to pull a zo6 at any speed.
I found the vf 10 to run the best at 12 psi. but that is with propper tuning. be careful with your engine.

You can pull on a Z06 at any speed with that turbo?? Are you talking about the Z06 Corvette? It is sappose to have 400 and some bhp, and it is a fairly light body. I havne't looked at the specs, but wow, how much power are you running in your car right now after all those mods?

havn't got it on a dyno. that is why I am not saying any hp#'s. that is just for comparison use.
a zo6 is 385 or 405 depending on the year with a weight of about 3200 lbs and rwd.

What kind of mods do you have done to your car? Also what tranny are you using to support all that power? The z06 is a 12sec car... Im slightly skeptical as to a 2.2l turbo legacy with a vf23 running by a 400hp muscle car... but if you can do it... sweet! The vf23 is one of the smaller turbo in the VF series lineup. Keeping up with a z06 might be alittle more realistic with something like a vf22.

I would have to agree here. I've heard the stock turbo starts blowing just more hot air at anything over 12psi. So even if you are running more boost, you will not be moving any more air than when at 12psi. The air will become heated, which might lead to pre-det and/or high egts. Your pistons might not like that.

I do not bull shit. the vf 23 is not much smaller than the vf 22. the 22 is not ball bearing the 23 is. the 23 has much better spool up. the 23 is capable of pushing 20 psi while still being very efficient. the 22 maybe 22. but will not create full boost until atleast 1000 rpm later.

hrm... looking back on the turbo compressor table, i guess the vf23 isnt that much smaller than the vf22... for some reason i had thought the vf23 was more commonly used as a autox turbo for the wrx... but i guess i was confusing that with a vf24.
VF 23: 423 CFM at 14.7 PSI
VF-22: 440 CFM at 14.7 PSI

VF 23: 430 CFM at 18 PSI
VF 22: 490 CFM at 18.0 PSI
It seems like the vf23 runs outa steam at the higher psi's though.
You say that having ball bearing turbo will decrease spool by 1000 but more realistically, its like 500 at most. A different exhaust housing will alter spool characterisitics more. What RPM are u getting boost at? I'm curious since the legacy has the 10% more displacement over the WRX. and once again, what kind of mods are you running? Does anyone know how much the legacy weighs? Its sweet that you can pull on z06's... congrats!

weight will vary depending on trim levels, turbo/non-turbo, wagon/sedan.

I weighed my n/a FWD auto tranny legacy sedan on a set of truck scales and with a full tank of gas it weighed 3160 lbs.

I'm seeing full boost between 2500-2800 rpm. I have lightened my car up in a few areas. have not weighed it though. mods are currently something like this
vf23, blitzfmic, stromung turboback, hsk headers, autronic ecu, brembo front gt brake kit, wilwood 4pot rear kit, prodrive struts and springs, subaru 17 inb4 5 spoke wheels with blad pilot sports, and a slipping clutch. I'm sure there is more but that's quite a bit of it.
I hope to get the sti 6 spd in the next couple weeks.
and then I'll be changin everything again in the next month or so. new engine and suspension.
I hope to dyno this engine soon. I'm gona see if I can safely run 20 psi with the injectors from my new engine.

Wow, thats pretty damn fast spool, especially considering that you have a FMIC and it has to push the air through all that piping. Thats almost comprable to the spool of a stock turbo on the WRX. I hear people with the vf23 on the wrx are getting boost alittle over 3k... probably like 3300rpm. The extra .2 liters is makin a decent difference. You should take it out and get some times on that thing hehe.

Lag through a fmic is mostly bull, the air is going over 100mph, a few feet of pipe shouldn't be anything.
