Throwing $5000 more at a Legacy Turbo...

Okay, you may have seen a post or two about my impending Legacy Turbo
Purchase. If you haven't, here's the scoop. In March '02 I will be
purchasing someone's used Legacy Turbo Sedan -- exactly which one, I
don't know yet. Currently there are three with Manual transmissions
available in the US (that I've found at least). This car will both be
my daily driver, plus a street and dirt-road rally car (Monte Carlo
dirt rallies), for the next year or so, or whenever I decide to prep
it for Full-on Club Rally (I have to give a couple years to my wife
to get used to the idea) and get another daily driver.
Aside from what I've budgeted for normal wear and tear repair of a
ten-year-old used car, I intend to spend an additional $5000 on
performance modifications up front.
It's first major "active duty" (aside from an occasional TSD) will be
to bring me back alive from the Alcan 5000 Summer rally. So it has to
be completely prepped by August and I'll have a shop do most of the
stuff.
My upgrade goal is to increase cornerning, braking and acceleration
performance on a balanced level. I'll probably drop in some Sparco
Seats as well.
Right now i'm considering an Apex'i turbo controller, coil-over
suspension (who's? -- should I go STI rally? or are those rediculous
for the street?), larger brakes (suggestions?) and, oh..I think that
about runs out of money for this phase...hmmm...
Anyhow, I'd like to toss this open for suggestions. I'll be
performing additional modifications after the Alcan, so I'm more
interested in doing it "right" the first time. So, if going with STI
rally suspension is the best, but takes most of this initial budget,
I'd sacrafice something else for later.
How is that Apex'i controller? Will I need anything else installed to
get to 11-13psi? Or does it come with something to replace/bypass the
BOV?
Thanks for anyone's time on this, I'll be more than happy to post
pics and dyno results (though the only AWD dyno is about an hour away
last I checked) as I add more modifications.
