Is there a speed limiter on our Subies. I have an RS Liberty.

I've had mine up to 140mph... so I'm gonna say no, it's not there. If
it is, it's set pretty damn high. There _is_ a rev limiter.

When Subaru originally set the record for land speed with legacy way back it
was at 223.345 km/h, about 149mph i think

There is a speed limiter on quite a few models but I am not sure if
anyone has figured out what models are equipped with this "nifty"
little device. I have heard that all automatics have one but have not
checked. We did run into one that was set at 108mph and we promptly
disabled it.

my mothers 95 legacy wagon has a speed limiter set at 118; haven't
found the one on my sedan yet... it's a 91 and auto.

The only ones with a speed limiter are the cars with the OBDII computer

The record is even more impressive since it is the AVERAGE speed for 100000
KM! The speed does calculate to 139 MPH...but still.

How would I know if there is a speed limiter? And how would I disable it? My Touring Wagon seems to top out at about 118 mph.

When you say top out.....what is the car doing? Does it go to that speed......and then rev's drop suddenly.......or can you just not go any faster?

I know there is no electronic speed limiter on the early legacies....there may be a fuel cut that is preventing you from going any faster....or just plain gearing and hp is limiting you.

Took the RS to 200km/h today, doing almost 6000rpm in 4th, with 1000rpm and another gear to go. Car has 166000km on the clock. Of course, not on a public road.

Should try it with a V8 by your side. With no other traffic on the road and only you and the other driver to harm your selfs. The look on a Clubsports drivers face is well priceless.

VT series 1 5.0 on the way home one day. I could’nt belive it I have 147Kw and he has 195Kw and about $30000 more than me. I have 170,000 kms and going strong after the tappet problem, use Castrol Formula R Synthetic if you have a drama. Had a series 3 VS ute pull away though. Big bush pig of a car, you would think the cat mud flaps would act like a parachute. I had 3 people in the car though and he was by him self.

I can usually get ahead of the older VL V8's without too much effort
from the lights, and take them to around the 150 mark before they
start to get up on me..... And i'm still not turbo'd! :D

At 200 in 5th my car is doing about 4500rpm comfortably!
In 5th at 5500 it is doing considerably more ;)
(of course i drove to the Northern Territory to do these speed tests)

Respray (sponsored by RACQ insurance) is about to begin (with the
assistance of a front on crash caused by an old man) Then a new turbo
motor will be put in place.... Already have the front-mount
intercooler! (http://netspeed.com.au/forthtay/turbo/cooler2.jpg)

I have 6 months without a licence to build the car, am looking for a
comfortable reliable 200kw atw. And have no doubt it will get there
fairly easily :D
I'll keep you posted on progress, George.
