I have a switch on my dash to turn the AWD on and off. I have heard you can leave the AWD off for extended periods of time with no damage what so ever. I've left mine off for thousands of miles and it still works great.

When the fuse is in I get better gas milage and better pick-up...

I know all about AWD on pavement...I do it all the time. Then again I take my car thru some nasty stuff now and then just so she doesn't forget what she is capable of. If I had lowerd my car I can't tell you how mant times I would have had to call a tow truck... I'm not saying to not lower your car....
