Ah, thanks, i got to fixing it before you replied. I undid the motor mounts and jacked the engine up about 1.5" to pull the head. I'd imagine that it's easier to do that way- it popped right out once i got over having to remove 2 more nuts.
Thanks!

Removing drivers side head
Hi guys, I'm doing the head gaskets on my old legacy. I've heard that you can pop the heads off without moving the engine, but i'm stumped on how to do it on the drivers side head. I've got all the head bolts out except for the bottommost rear one, which doesn't seem to clear the frame rail. I'd app...

Re: 100k anniversary
I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. I like my 205/45/16s better. They clear bigger brakes and have less sidewall to flex while still having enough to be useful on real-life roads. You're free to disagree with me, but you're wrong. I've run 3 sets that size, and at almost twice t...

100k anniversary
in 2001 i never expected to own this thing long enough to put 100k on it, but here it is, with 168k showing on the odometer. To celebrate, i've made a list of the things i've learned as a long term legacy owner. *205/50/15 is the best tire size for old legacies. period. *you can do a timing belt job...

use a butter knife to pop out the door handle covers first, there's a clip on the top and bottom of the handle hinge. There's 2 screws for the handle, one at the top that's pretty obvious and another in the arm rest that you have to take off a plastic cover to access. 3 screws next to the speakers d...

You could run it, and it may never be a problem, the anti roll bar and the rebound damper in the strut would keep the spring compressed inside the strut assembly. That's not to say its a good idea. A good bump that unloads both wheels at the same time could unseat the spring and at best destroy your...

the struts will control the movement, but ultimately the amount the suspension compresses in a corner is up to the spring. Your struts may well be worn out, but rubbing would be from worn out springs. if it was rubbing when you hit bumps or violently loaded or unloaded the suspension...maybe then yo...

Hey Scott! Long time since you've been around these parts. No disrespect, but I think the best way to test your dedication to a hobby is to overdo it. I love to drive too, but I changed my username to The Driver in German for a reason... I've driven damn near 100,000 miles in the past 2 years. I do...

But first, just check that you didn't accidentally knock the connector off the sender by accident when doing the cam belt job. If it makes contact against the engine block it'll turn the light on. this was it. I've gotta go to class, but when i get back ill post a pic of why it got bumped. It will ...

it only happened once, the first time i started the car up after i changed the timing belt. It sounded like missing a shift, i wasn't really listening for it. Now the car starts up on the first click of the starter like it always did, and appears to be jimdandy, but the oil pressure light and CEL is...

no oil pressure- oil pump knackered?
Hello forum Last night my car died as i was gently driving on a city street. Got it towed home to figure out the crank pulley had stripped the timing belt. I put on a new timing belt and now my oil pressure light is stuck on. Car runs normally (not that i drove it hardly) and has a full load of oil....

Scott -- what if you have a car that does not have a more powerful engine as a drop-in alternative? Or what if you already have the most powerful engine in a lineup but want more power? Then put in something that doesn't drop in. If you're mechanically inclined enough to stick a sbc in your c...

personally, i'm ok with all modified engines being kept off the road. Want a faster car? Put a more powerful factory engine in. If you don't have the knowhow or equipment, you probably don't have the knowhow or equipment to properly modify the original engine. There's so many incredibly powerful yet...

When it comes to engineering, the best way to design a front-wheel drive car is with a boxer engine. No doubts about this. The problem with the change to fwd decades ago is that the main manufacturers then took an existing in-line engine and twisted it around. how do you figure? Seems like 2 engine...

solution to exploding cv boots?
from dpcars.net http://dpcars.net/dp1test/dp1250.jpg The next picture shows the effectiveness of a lesson learned from the Westie - the zip ties on the CV boot. There is no sign of rubbing despite the boot being only 1/4" from the suspension arm and having run at 122 mph. On the Westie the boot...
