Re: 1986 Subaru GL-10 Leone TURBO
It's a P1800 with an aftermarket grille. The bodies for the first ones were actually built in the UK by Jensen, so you're inadvertently not too far off, Josh. I'm a huge fan of the P1800ES (wagon version). The record holder for a car with the most mileage is a P1800. However, that comes at the price...

Looks heavy. Would be great if it were handy when someone broke in. $15 is pretty damn cheap, but as an FYI in case you start getting into making lamps, you can also buy parts to make your own lamps at Lowes and Home Depot.

Re: shaved door trim!!
I wonder if they body-filled the bumpers or welded plastic in its place. To me, that doesn't look different enough from painted trim (if you like that look) for the effort required. At one point, I wanted to replace the trim with gen 2 trim painted to match, but partially filling the molding indents...

I think he means he's keeping the rear end. I would think it would be the same as any swap with removing the driveshaft and using the FWD transmission mount.

No, it is not a regular brand. It has 3 letters in the name and isn't BMW. I can't find anything like it with all kind of Google searches, so I'm thinking it might be one of those bullshit "manufacturers" that just rebody someone else's vehicle.

Re: Mystery SUV Driving me Nuts
I've identified weird stuff like Goggomobiles abandoned to rot in fields while driving by at near highway speeds, but this is nothing I've ever seen. A friend of mine in NYC thinks he saw the same thing and had no clue what it was either and he lost it in traffic, but he thought the 3-letter name ha...

Re: Unwrap a leather wheel ?
The twine is used to keep the end of the tape from unravelling. Most bikers just use electrical tape, but I think the twine is classier. The starting end of the tape is wrapped over itself, keeping it in place, but the finishing end needs something to hold it. In brief and probably sounding more con...

Re: Unwrap a leather wheel ?
Handlebar wrap is a great idea! For durability, you want leather or cloth covered in shellac. Look up how to wrap bars and finishing with the ends with string. A lot of old school (real old school) race cars would have their wood wheels wrapped in several places with shellacked string for grip. Not ...

Mystery SUV Driving me Nuts
I usually know or can get close to guessing any car I see, but I've had one recently that leaves me a complete blank and even google is no help. I've seen it twice driving around Salem, MA and neither time was I able to get a real ID of the nameplate. It happened to be black, looks fairly new, kind ...

Don't remove the clips (likely too late) as you can just remove the bracket they attach to and leave it clipped to the bumper. I found that out the hard way.

For that, then, it might be an EJ20 turbo short block. I guess with rod knock it doesn't matter unless it happens to be open deck.

Or they could be spoiled rich kids, but I immaturity is the core. With boats or aircraft, it's mostly about enjoying nature or company, not mental Viagra of the moar pow3r crowd's toys. It's also about trying to impress women and make themselves feel superior to other dudes, which is an insecurity l...

Mike, your points made me realize that the dick swinging I think of as being particularly bad with cars, but suspected is about the same with anything, probably is particularly bad with cars because cars are so accessible to anyone. Yeah, there's some dick swinging with boats, say, but that's not so...

That sounds like a security torx or TR torx (tamper resistant) driver you'll need. You should be able to find a folding set for around $12, but you'll probably have to order it as you're not likely to find it on a shelf at the hardware store. The good thing is that they work fine as a regular Torx d...

I'm not sure how it was resolved, but the EPA was fighting it out with Mercedes over what they would do to make sure customers refilled the urea. I THINK they give you a warning that it's low and it gives you a set number of times you can restart the car with the system empty before it locks you out...

Re: Automakers see three-cylinder engines as the next big th
No, CAFE is measured from the car, but doesn't follow the revised EPA test. Actually, now the requirements are based on some kind of calculation involving the car's footprint (the smaller the car, the higher the required mileage). But since it measures the fleet average, every 3 cylinder that does a...

An M6 would have to be gray market, wouldn't it? I thought the highest level 6-series they exported to the States was the 635csi.

I did the same thing, but with then running a hose with the same diameter from the stock pipe to a NACA duct, also with the same inlet diameter.

So the main difference between these and the GC version is the caster it sounds like. I have the GC ones and there seems to be no change in caster and they compared perfectly to the OEM arms, but I still had to cut the bushing in the exact same way.

CLIFF NOTES: without reductions in aero drag (highway penalty) and weight (city penalty), the real world gains in downsizing past a certain lower limit (beyond ~2.0L N/A as that seems to be right about there) are minimal, resulting in greater compromises for lower return. END I'm highly skeptical. T...

I think I had those on my Mazda 3 in 17". They were less than half the price of the OEM Goodyear Eagle RSAs and I'd say about 85-90% as good. Great tread life (though a little less than the extraordinarily long lived Goodyears), good grip in wet and dry, a little louder than the Goodyears. They...

Butyl tape came to mind, but the stuff I've used for sealing outdoor connections on cell antennas is definitely too hard to use to seal headlights unless you maybe heated it up first. In the cold, it's resistant to even sticking to itself. We'd warm it with our hands to get it to form to the connect...

Very much like that. Following cars won't like him much, but he'd be out of there so quick, he'd only smash a few windshields whenever he used it. The usual method is to use a second engine for the sucker fans. Chaparral used two used snowmobile engines. It's too bad the car was unreliable before th...
