ABS screw under the center console how to remove it

Post by yazmo »

hello anyone know what kind of screw driver i need to use to remove the abs unit
its like a kind of star with a pin right in the middle i dunno how its call so i may find the tools i need to remove it.

thx in advance.

also i need to change the cover of the speed shifter automatic, bcuz the plastic is broke
its seem that i have to cut the wire on the shifter under the center trim cover, to remove it,
is there any other way to remove the center console without cutting the wire to set the transmission on manual mode?

That sounds like a security torx or TR torx (tamper resistant) driver you'll need. You should be able to find a folding set for around $12, but you'll probably have to order it as you're not likely to find it on a shelf at the hardware store. The good thing is that they work fine as a regular Torx drivers, too.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

but, the unit under the center console is not the abs unit.

It is the SRS unit.

abs=antilock brake system
srs=supplemental restraint system ie airbag system brain/

The srs unit is in the console, and yes it requires tamper proof torx i believe t20 is the one....

a helpful hint is do not buy the cheapy torx set at autozone, advance, etc. They will bend and break the end due to the fact those screws have glue on them holding them TIGHT.
you need a quality set.

I have done this before.

Be careful removing/disconnecting the wires of the SRS control unit. Make sure to disconnect the battery so there's no chance of the airbag accidently deploying.

Harbor Freight sells a set of about 20 different security bits for around $10. Don't know if you have access to their catalog or store. Luck, Steve.
