Rear Wiper Motor problem.....

Post by skatedees »

So I got a new(used) rear wiper motor for my wagon a while back. I installed the motor but never got around to puting the wiper arm on or even testing the thing until just recently.

The issue I'm having is not that the wiper motor doesn't work, (it does work) but only if you pull on the 'shaft'. Shaft= The threaded shaft that sticks out awaiting the wiper arm.

It has about a quarter inch of in and out play. When it's in, you can hear the motor working, but the shaft isn't spinning. When you pull on it, it then starts working properly. But when I have the arm installed it is down and therefore doesn't work.

Am I missing something? Is there supposed to be that much play in the 'shaft'?

Thanks

Sounds broken to me. I replaced my rear wiper arm and the shaft was solid. Is there a cover that you can take off to look inside? There may just be a clip that has broken that holds the gear in the right place.

I concur. There shouldn't be play. What happened to your original one? Maybe you can swap parts around to get a working wiper.

Sent the original back for the CORE charge.

I'll rip into this motor and see what the deal is.....

Hopefully it'll be an easy fix.....

OK, all fixed. And it was pretty easy......

Once I got the cover off I saw that the gear attached to the shaft would go back just far enough to loose the teeth of the second gear. It seemed like it was missing some sort of spacer between the back of the gear and the cover itself.
So after searching my bucket o' misc nuts/bolt/etc..., I found a spring that would work as the spacer I need.

I hope I'm making sense. I didn't have a camera, so I made a picture...

Wow.... I hope you can understand my pic. I just looked at it again, and it's not the best.
