Subaru STi Short Block Assembly Video

Post by Legacy777 »

Someone posted this on FB, and it looks like a pretty good informational video for anyone that has not assembled a Subaru engine before.

Cool...I want to watch that as I'm still too 'green' to try a complete reassembly. Of course, then I'll be looking for more projects!

Wow, this is awesome! Makes me want to put together a block just for fun. Maybe I'll pull apart my old EJ22T and reassemble it just for practice for when I inevitably have to do a real rebuild. Really takes the uncertainty and fear out of doing a split case engine.

That's a cool video Mike.

I really want a used 4EAT to tear apart. I'm going to be tearing apart my 5MT once it warms up a little bit and I have time :)

I've always wanted an old Porsche 911, and typically said I would ditch the Porsche 6 in favor of an EJ. Watching that teardown just confirmed that I never want anything to do with an aircooled Porsche motor :)

There's a Porsche 3.0 engine in pieces in my shared garage. Not too much to it. I'll try to remember to post some pics. Aircooled h6 with 2 valves per cyl.

He doesn't check his bearing clearances
But I love that he uses Permatex Ultra Grey ! I've used this for years and its all I use on any job.

I believe he was using brand new oem everything, which is why he didn't check clearences.

The tip about putting sealant on the outer case bolts is interesting, he seemed to be using it as a threadlocker.

No way would I build an engine on the driveway. Darn kids going by on their skateboards and kickin' up dust. And he walked on the cardboard.

He may have just been doing this as an example for the video.
