Serious oil leak coming from underneath intake manifold

Post by speezly »

My 93 legacy L is having oil pool up on top of the block next to he passenger side head. Any ideas as to what this could be? I cannot see where anything would be leaking from, it's right under the IACV

Did you recently change the head gaskets?

I had changed the passenger side head gasket about 2 years back Bc I broke a rocker arm bolt off in the head and had to have it laser blasted out. The motor is only at about 20k since I've rebuilt it.

Can you shine a light on it where it's leaking while the engine is running? I had a ton of oil spurting out due to a failed head gasket, in that location.

That is what I am fearing. I used a cheap gasket and I installed it while the engine was in the car. I was hoping it was something else, but everything points to the HG. I used an eBay gasket set instead of genuine Oem

Not to sound like an ass but "cheap headgasket" just wont work man. Also doing them in the car is extremely difficult and too many things can go wrong, I've been there. I've actually had cheap headgaskets fail on first startup with the proper torque sequence.

They weren't the cheapest lmao. But yeah, I'm sure I messed something up trying to do the job without pulling the motor. I used the HGs that came with my Rockauto gasket set, and the drivers side has held up. Looks like the legacy is out of commission until I can find some heads to work with my 255 block or buy new HGs, timing belt etc for my boring ass 2.2 na.

I've only done one HG in car and hope to never do it again. I actually used a graphite gasket because its more tolerant of surfaces not being perfect compared to MLS. I did my best but im pretty sure my torque angles aren't 100% oem spec lol.

With a little bit of maneuvering, I was able to put the passenger hg back on without too much difficultly, but there must have been just enough room for error.
