Re: Mike-Tracy's New 92 SS
1600 miles and counting. I replaced the valvecover gaskets with oem ej25d ones. There are small but important differences between the ej20k and ej25d gaskets that I've never seen anyone mention. There are several "nubs" that have nowhere to go in the ej20k heads. I cut them off and haven't had any leaks.
Got my wideband and boost gauge installed, the car came with a Perrin Dual Gauge Pod - https://www.perrin.com/shop/interior-gauges/gauge-pod
I haven't gotten a retune, and the car is running stupid rich, but runs well enough. It's peak boost is 1 bar and AFR's are ~13.5:1 at idle and ~10:1 under full boost. I've been focusing on the RSTi for the last 2 months, so once that project is done, I'll haul the SS into the garage once again.
I really don't like the FMIC, it's pipes are in the way everywhere. Plus the dinky twinscroll td04 has to pressurize 10+ feet of piping every time you stab the throttle. It still spools stupid quick, but I'm after even better response. I have a full OEM awic setup that i've been sitting on for years, and I think this is the right car to install it on. So that's on the list before the retune.

Re: Mike-Tracy's New 92 SS
Are the EJ25D heads (and thus valve cover gaskets) the same on the EJ20G? Is the EJ20K the odd one out here?

1996 ej25d is the same as the lmpreza ej20g gaskets. 97-99 ej25d is close to ej20k (and Forester ej20g), close enough to use if you trim them a little.
It's the Legacy ej20g gaskets that are unique.
If you're talking combustion Chambers size, then the legacy ej20g and 1996 ej25d are unique in that they are larger than the other early heads.
The legacy ej20g heads have unique valvetrain and cams that aren't interchangeable with anything else.
