Walbro Fuel Pump...
Got my 255LPH Walbro pump last night. It's the WRX pump.
It took about 2 hours because one of the hoses was being a BITCH.
Got the pump assembly out, and it's a DIRECT swap. Once the assembly was out, it took 2 minutes to swap the pumps and have the pump back in the tank.
No noticeable difference (which is good) except the pump is LOUD from outside the car.
I'll turn up the boost tomorrow and see if that was my fueling problem.
Definately worth the 80 bucks I spent on the pump.... I hope...
Phil
P.S. What does the stock pump flow?

You said you got the GSS341... that's not the one recommended for the WRX. The WRX one is the GSS342. From what I understand, the difference is just which side the outlet nipple is on or something, so it's not a big deal.
Do a search for a thread I started about the various OEM fuel pumps and their flow rates...
Cool. This bodes well for my installation of the Walbro.

The biggest problem was the main fuel line. Once I got that off, it was cake.
Vikash - Get a spare length of fuel hose (about 3" or so). You'll need it.
Doug - I have friends... It was my road-racing buddies. He used it for a week (100 miles maybe?), then wrecked on a track day

Phil - Thanks for the advice. I'll get some. 5/16" fuel injection hose?
Did you have to do anything special to mount the pump?
Douglas - Lightly used Walbro pumps go really cheap on NASIOC all the time. I don't remember what I paid for mine but I think it was around $40 or $45 shipped!

Nothing special. Just dropped RIGHT in. It worked perfectly
The stock pump is HUGE!
I think it's 5/16". Keefe, guy I got it from, had installed the proper hose.

Don't you need a diff fuel pressure regulator to actually get more fuel to the injectors, or at least a rrfpr. I bought and installed mine a while back, I think it runs a little richer but then those a/f ratio things aren't very accurate. Even after depressurizing the tank, one of the hoses sprayed fairly good when i took it off. Did you notice anything like that?

A fuel pressure regulator regulates pressure. It returns any fuel that's not used up by the injectors. If you have a pump that flows more fuel then what the stock regulator can bypass/flow back to the tank at idle, your fuel pressure will be higher then it should be, and you'll be running richer.dzx wrote:Don't you need a diff fuel pressure regulator to actually get more fuel to the injectors, or at least a rrfpr. On the flip side, when you're in boost....you've got more fuel capacity via the pump, so a rising rate fpr "shouldn't" really be necessary if you set things up properly.
Just a quick question.....the stock fpr is going to give you a 1:1 boost in fuel pressure when in boost correct?

Phil - You're welcome.
Josh - Yes. The stock FPR is referenced only to fuel pressure and manifold pressure, and always keeps the differential static.
dzx and Josh - The purpose of the Walbro swap isn't to get more fuel; it's just to make sure you get enough. A tired old pump isn't necessarily going to give Phil the kind of fuel flow he needs to maintain proper pressure at full boost on the TD05-16G.

Did you unplug the correct connector and allow the car to stall out?
I just started the car then unplugged that connector, and let the car die.
Oh, and the Walbro pump fixed my fuel-cut problem
Running 16psi right now, and it's faster than a motherfucker.

The car pulls better at 16psi now, than it did with the stock fuel pump at 16psi. I have a feeling it was the O2 sensor thing. Glad I caught it now.
It's retarded how fast this thing is. I've driven an STi, and my car feels faster. Lots of turbo lag off the line though From a roll in 1st, it lags like a mother, then BAM throws you back and kicks you in the ass. Torque steer like a sonofabitch.
I keep spiking to 20psi in 1st then it drops to 16 and holds there. Electronic boost controller time maybe?

I just finished installing a walbro I purchased from Rallitek.
Lets just say the wrx fuel pump is NOT a direct drop in. The electrical connections are different and the bottom rubber stop and support are different.
So I just changed the ends of the wiring, cut the rubber grommet thing to fit and used a zip tie.
It works.

Why are you running a VF39? That thing is maxed out on the STi, and they are expensive. For the same price, you could get an 18G for BIG power, or a 16G for a hell of a ride. People make 300awhp on the EJ20T with the 16G like it was it's job.
Doug - The 341 is a direct drop in and bolt on for the Turbo legacy. The 341 and the 342 have the same connection and rubber bottom mount.
Maybe the Turbo and N/A pumps are different? You DID get a 341/342 pump, Right?

My understanding is that the turbo and NA pumps are different. Something about the variable voltage of the WRX's fuel system is my understanding, but I could be mistaken.BAC5.2 wrote:Maybe the Turbo and N/A pumps are different? You DID get a 341/342 pump, Right?
I have the Walbro in my RS, and it is definitely a noise you have to learn to live with. But my car got faster with a fresh pump. Of course my gas mileage dropped as wel;, but performance has it's price.
Glad to hear the car pulls like a bat out of hell now...

i could get a 18g for 400 more than i paid and a 16g for the same price. idealy i wanted a fp green but dont have the money for it. also i couldnt find a 16g. ive been looking forever and i didnt want to spend the bucks on a new one. its not realy maxed out on the sti either.
if im not pleased with the 39 there is a importer thats here in town that picks up his shipments personly and has agreed if i want to search out a 16g for me. but i didnt want to deal the hassle of waiting for his next trip to japan.

Matt - Really? I can't hear it inside the car. I can hear it humming like a bastard outside the car though. The car pulls like a MOTHER. I am just nervous about blowing all that smoke out of the BOV
.
Jason - Your call. I'd stick with the 16G, as it flows a LOT of air.
