Legacy rally car setup

Post by RallyRS »

Hi.

I race a 1989 Legacy RS rally car and have had suspension problems which has held me up, but have recently invested in some DMS 60mm suspension which should be awesome.

Anyway, there are lots of setup things to do with toe settings and suspension height, camber adjustment. I was just wondering what has worked for others.

The current way my car is setup is:
Front toe = 2mm out
Rear toe = 4mm in
Front camber = 1.5 degrees
Rear camber = 0.5 degrees
Rake = 5mm lower in back
Front sway bar removed
Standard rear sway bar
Rear springs are 170 (units???)
Front springs are 220 (units???)

Car handled OK with old suspension, but haven't finished putting car back together with new suspension to test it.

I have heard that rally cars should have toe in front and back, and also that the rake should have the rear slightly higher than the front. But have haven't tired the car like this.

Anyone got any settings that worked really well from them?

For anyone that is new to setting up suspension for rally. Don't under-estimate the difference these settings can make. Like driving a new car with a couple of mm difference here and there. Hillclimbs and autocross don't really matter coz you got a chance to understand track before going as quick as possible, but in a rally when you want to go quick the first time - setup is everything.

Cheers

The toe settings depend on what you want. If you want a bit of help getting around the corners, run with some toe out in the back, but expect twitchy straights.

I run with zero toe, 3 degrees of camber up front and 2 degrees of camber out back.

How come you went with the 60s? Pretty expensive.

What kind of center differential are you using?
