Referrence Guide for Legacy Turbo 90-94 beginner tunning

Post by yazmo »

first of all hello everyone i was wondering about a treat that would help beginner like me to start ubgrading there legacy turbo 90-94

i read mostly all the topic and i know what to do,
but i dunno where to start so here the point of this topic.

i would like to know from your experience what should we start figuring that we would like to get a car with 300-350 hp

what are the first step to do with the less money to get some hp.
i have did all the common and basic tune up like fluid change spark plug, pcv valve, brake system "galiper rotor pads, oil filter air filter ect... "

now i am thinking changing few part but for something better that could eventualy be usefull to get some whp.

can someone list the step by step modding to get more torque and whp.

right now i have order hallman manual boost controller and i willl try to do as its show in the tutorial to how to install it.

i am sorry for my bad english i hope you understand my point
for you veteran you may no longer have your old subu but you should feel our feeling to get our car in a better shape.

thx for anyone who is going to respond this msg hope its help me and other new legacy turbo owner to get there car tunned properly.

Start with a turbo back exhaust, an intercooler of some sort, and your MBC (set at 12-13psi).

From there you will want a larger turbo, larger injectors, MAF with more headroom (or go MAP based - see next sugestion), and then to run all this - you'll need some engine management.

I'd start with a fresh tune-up (good quality fluids) then I'd max out the stock turbo.

1. K&N filter / c-cup
2. Intercooling - pick your poison (FMIC, TMIC, Alky)
3. Boost set right before fuel cut (this was 10psi on my car)
4. 3" TBE
5. Walbro fuel pump
6. Fuel cut defender
7. Max out stock turbo (15psi-?(I never got to max out my VF11))

I'd estimate about 200-215 crank HP @ this point (someone may have real #'s somewhere).

8. E/M
9. Injectors
10. Upgraded turbo (VF10, TD04, VF8, TD05, GT2871R, GT35R....)

? HP when its all said & done - it all depends on what components you use.

VF10 is bigger than the VF11 - look in the turbo section for pics

There is a Upgrade sequence somewhere - I just forgot where it is.

Fuel cut defender tricks the pressure sensor into not letting the engine computer go into failsafe mode.

E/M is aftermarket Engine Management.

I'd add AWIC to number two.

how much ponnie would i get for 1 psi more
approximatively of course.

i got the hallman manual boost controller and i know you have suggest few thing before installing it on stock car.
since i am not sure my solenoid work well i was thinking of putting the mbc and set it at the lowest factory setting
is any chance this would make my car less expensive in fuel??
300km = full tank

from Http://www.xcceleration.com

thank you for writing us. Sorry for the delay....it’s crazy hear....race season. For the 2.2L engines, do not do much, but have seen intake, headers, lightened crankshaft pulley, grounding kit and engine management to help bring power up. Pricing has been as follows:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intake $250.usd
Header $500.usd
Lightened crankshaft pulley $200.usd
Grounding kit $230.usd
Engine management $999.usd

Best to you,
Sam

About 10-15... depending on turbo and a couple other things.

Wow, those are custom fabbed prices.

Here are some prices to budget per mod.

1. K&N Intake/c-cup fabbed/... - $40-100
2. I/C - $50-$300+
3. Boost controller - $25-500
4. TBE exhaust $300(+)
5. Walbro - $100
6. FCD $3-$55
7. free as you already paid for the boost controller on #3
* A L/W pulley should free up 1-3 HP - $60-120

I'd stick to this sequence as you want to be sure the car has plenty of fuel before you crank the boost up to the max...
You could do #1-5 in a day drive the car to make sure everything is OK then do #6 & 7.

Oh that turbo is for a DSM & will not bolt on to your up-pipe.

The VF10 looks like a nice up-grade & I have personally took the TD04 that was on my SS up to a steady 15psi (17psi spike to hold a steady 15psi)

Saw this TMIC in the parts shed - looks like a good deal & is supposed to be way easier to fit than a 02-05 WRX TMIC.

hey i have found a nice web site but the only thing that stop me from buying something
is that i dunno what part of wrx can be use on legacy 1994 turbo like suspension and everything i always try to find something for 90-94 legacy and i rarely found something for that.

so my question is what other subaru part witch i can go for.
like for the suspension mine is in realy bad shape i need to change it for something that give me smooth ride but also better handling what other model and what mount i could use other than stock one.

here the web site look at these intercooler i want get one dunno which one lol

dont tell me kyb i just not good enough lol even agx one :P

I sold some coil overs I had to a friend who's more in to auto-x and he gave me his Prodrive P1 setup off of his GC. It's a bit smoother, but still very stiff and it lowered my car a bit.

I think it uses Eibach springs and KYB struts.... and that's straight from Prodrive.
