Magnecor Spark Plug Wire Resistence
I've got a small miss if I hold the revs up around 2500 rpm or so. Car doesn't seem to run bad. I'm planning to change the plugs this weekend, and will check the wires. They're OLD Magnecor's. I got them back in 99 or maybe earlier.....
So anyway, I was wondering if someone that has a set of the Magnecor KV85 wires can check the resistence. I'd like to compare them to mine.
Thanks.

I tested two of the ones on my Legacy and got around 4.2 k ohms.
I tested 3 I believe on my impreza with the male connector coil pack. They were around 9.14 k ohms.

josh i had a set of those wires on my car that i would swap back and forth and on my j&s i would catch more lights with those wires then anything and they are brand new!!
ngk ones i think are the best you can get, its sad but its true.

Well I could probably pick up a set of NGK wires and try them out. I may still have an old set of wires I could try, just for kicks and giggles.

Yeah I have a lightweight standard sized aluminum pulley on the engine.
I made mention of the slight vibration I felt between a certain RPM range. It would go away when RPM's were below or above it. That would indicate a harmonic vibration. I'm going to stick the stock crank pulley back on, with its built in harmonic damper to see if anything changes.

I wouldn't say it's a weird vibration. It's a very slight harmonic vibration the engine makes. If I didn't have the STi hardened mounts I probably would not have noticed it.

i all ways used a stock one on every subaru motor i made, i tried those light ones a very long time ago and it was a mess!! but there is two kinds, i have on all the ej22t motors. the ej22ts they had a lighter one and the new turbo era cars have a very big one. i like the new ones better more beef to them. my dad sticks what every is there he says its all the same lol.Legacy777 wrote:Yeah I have a lightweight standard sized aluminum pulley on the engine.

So the newer ones are bigger/heavier?
I've heard of crank trigger issues on the WRX when swapping to the non-stock crank pulley.

I put the stock pulley on tonight. There was no apparent change in the engine miss. As for the vibration....it might have been a little better, but again I didn't notice any apparent change.
I tried taking a sound clip from my mp3 player so you can hear the miss. It didn't do a very good job recording the lower frequency of the exhaust. If you listen carefully, you can kind of hear it.

Only other comment I have about the stock pulley is the damn thing is not true. I think the outer portion of the pulley is out of round or something like that. It was like this before I took it off. I am probably going to try and pickup a used WRX pulley, as this one is making a chirpy noise.
I'll have to drive it some more, but I kind of like how the engine responded with the extra "mass" on the crank. At idle it didn't seem to rev as quickly, but driving I didn't really notice a difference in acceleration. What I did notice it seemed to be a little smoother starting and stopping and shifting.
I weighed the stock pulley & the LW aluminum stock sized pulley.
Stock pulley: 4 lb 12.75 oz
LW stock sized pulley: 1 lb 2.875 oz
I guess I'll try plug wires next and see if that gets rid of the miss.

i tried listen to it, i think i heard it. i think maybe just wires would do it.
also i am glad you like the stock pully, its so much better for the motor!! i run the wrx one and i have no problems at all. maybe thats a wrx problem they have.
the oem system needs that harmonic balance, i think the only pullys you can get away with is power steering and ac and alternator.
