92 Legacy L. new transmission

Post by 92legacy-sti »

So Ive done some work on this since last year. Just thought I'd post it...

It's a 1992 Legacy L. Only had 127,024 miles on it when i got it. The last owner took great care of it...

First shots...

Some bodywork...

There was very little rust on the sides, but the back of the rocker panels were gone. The previous owners hit a deer so there were dents all over the side and the body filler from when it was fixed before was cracking. The paint on the front bumper was also flaking off. There was also the time when I was at work and a guy with a skateboard hit it on the rear driver's side door...

After bodywork...

8 months later. Found a nice muddy road... :D

Then decided to get an SS hood and spoiler...

After painting both and detailing my car...

So what do you guys think of it? :)

Good job. Looks a lot better than it did when you got it. Could use some nicer wheels but it's very clean.

I'll probably keep the N/A bumper for now, but I had a chance to pick up a set of Legacy GT snowflakes for $300 not long ago. From what he was telling me though (alot of hard off roading) I didn't want to risk that much money and possibly get bent or damaged rims. But eventually I'll look for a set of 15" 5 spoke alloys from a second gen legacy outback.

Thanks for all of the comments. :D The GL hatchback in the background is my Dad's. He bought it brand new back in 1988. 192,000 miles and still going strong.

So recently I've been thinking of making up a light bar...I've got a friend of mine who has a welder and I've got a design in mind...just have to come up with the materials. I plan to work on it this summer...

( I tried to photoshop one in...)

Image

This is what I'd like to build. I'm just trying to decide whether to leave it silver or paint it black....

Any comments or opinions welcome

Leave it silver unless you do your grille in black and de-chrome the trim.

Leave it. The spoiler looks better on a lighter colored car.

I thought about chrome, that's what the light bar was when i got it from the other pic (box cover of a second gen Legacy model kit...) but there is nowhere around here (that I know of) to get it plated. I may look into it a little more though. I may just have it powder coated silver when I get around to making it.

Thanks for the opinions. :D

I love the fog lights and the badge on the grille. How did you attach the rear badge? Also, have you considered de-chroming the side trim with electrical tape or painting over it? It really adds a modern touch to these cars in my opinion.

The rear and side badges i attached with 3m moulding tape that i spent some time on shaping it behind them. They origionally had pegs on back, but i took them off so i didn't have to drill holes for them. I thought about de-chroming for awhile now....I may try it this summer.

Definitely thinking about it. I would like to get a turbo awd 5mt swaped in. Problem is finding any turbo parts cars around here is pretty hard to do. :(

Any updates? I still want the fog lights to replace my Wal Mart lights. And a question regarding the front badge, how did you get the chrome out of the stars without killing the badge? I know you can chip it out with a sharp object but that takes lots of time.

Plenty of updates including a deer jumping in front of me, an unlicensed driver caving in my passenger door and leaving, and and an all new paint job! :-D also have supertones now. Ive been busy recently but I'll post up updates sometime tonight. And as for the badge, I'm not sure about the chrome. I bought the turbo grill from another member here and he painted the chrome. I just added the white paint. I'll see if I can't find out...

Ok I gotta ask. How did you get the white gauge faces? I know you can use early Impreza ones but those won't do the gas and temperature gauges. Were they a one off thing or a production item that I've never seen?

I bought the gauges from another member not too long ago. They were a production item for the Legacy, but I think they were discontinued. I think it is called an Indiglo gauge overlay. It's actually one solid gauge overlay with a new bezel on top.

Installed a new intake today. It actually made some improvement with this car. Engine seems to run smoother and has more torque above 2000 rpm.

nice intake, similar to what mine looked like. I noticed however that there was no power off the start. I am guessing you have the same problem and thats why it doesnt kick in till 2000. but it pulls well. your car is so clean and i love the JDM fogs never knew they made them until just recently. i switched in 04 WRX fogs instead. so is there a blinker in there as well?
