Possible to make short shifter from 2.5 fit our car?

yup.. just as the post says, I drove a friend's 2.5 RS last week wtih a short shifter in it and I was blown away with the differance it made. I can get the exact same shifter he bought off of e-bay through my store... is there any way that the 2.5 RS one can be made to fit our trannies (even if it envolves welding?? )
