I have a bit under 65,000 miles and my brother has 41,000 -- does that count?

I did about 136 down a big-ass hill. (Uh, it was on a Rocky Mountain racetrack. ) Fastest NAs go on flat ground is 120.

My dad's Forester is limited at 110, which is annoying because the EJ25 had plenty of grunt left at that speed and the gearing was tall enough.

I would like to say that I received the HVAC control panel a few days ago. I haven't installed it yet so I don't know if it works, but it was packaged well and was in good condition.

Thanks!

Well, I pulled out the cable running through the nut (didn't know it came out separately  ) and sure enough, when I spun one end the other end didn't spin with it. I have a new one on order at the local Subaru dealer.

VSS on manual transmission -- replacement?

Driving from Utah to Maryland, my speedometer dropped to 0 mph in the middle of South Dakota and stayed there. I took the dash and cluster off and the cable wasn't spinning on that end. I put it back on and separated the other end of the cable from the sensor on the transmission, spun the cable, and...

I also have a G20 (BTW, it's "Infiniti" :P ) and the G20.net forums aren't quite as good as LCO, but they're still pretty good for a car forum IMO -- I'd say better than NASIOC. I actually have an SR20DE in the back of my Legacy right now -- I got it in Chicago and am taking it home to Bal...

5th gear RPM to vehicle speed

So the VSS crapped out on me in South Dakota and I now have no speedometer. My tach still works though. Does anybody know what RPMs correspond to the following speeds?

65 mph
70 mph
75 mph
80 mph

Thanks.

Well I figured out what the other sound was. It was my VSS. Because it stopped working and now my speedometer doesn't work.

I have more information on my clunking. It doesn't happen at highway speeds -- only below about 40-50 mph. When I'm going really slow it's started clunking very frequently. I also noticed today that when I'm coming to a stop and starting up at low speeds a I get a low-pitched uneven squeaking like r...

'Crack', or 'clunk'? All of a sudden, I have a clunk now, it happens mostly when I'm braking, but it's happened once when I was pulling out of a parallel parking space and had the steering close to full-lock. I'm not going to go into how irritated I am about it  Mine happens mostly when I'm g...

Before you go replacing the belt, have you tried undoing the buckle? Auto belts get locked and then stuck -- it's happened to me a couple of times and the symptoms are similar to what you describe. Press the emergency release on the part that moves the belt and see if it will move freely.

+1 on the throwout bearing. Mine makes the clicking noise, squeaks when you push it in a little, and then makes no noise when in all the way. The mechanic said it was the TOB.

Argh... I have this too. I don't think it's a CV joint -- all of mine are in good shape from what I can see. Did a search and I found one of two things it could be -- wheel bearings or strut tops.

Car did throw a CEL yesterday when it died, but it went away as soon as the car started back again. Hasn't thrown a code since and it's shut off on me 3 times and squirrelled under heavy acceleration twice. So... why don't you pull the codes? Just connect the one-pin black connector under the knee ...

Caliber? Isn't that a Dodge?

FWIW the 06+ WRXes have 17" wheels, so the new brakes probably won't fit under the 16" ones.

You guys must need to refresh the suspensions or something. I run GR2s (worn and now gone stiff) and 16" wheels. The Isuzu/GMC box truck at work floats like Mohammad Ali. My parents complained about this back in the mid-90s when we took the car on camping trips. I'm pretty sure the suspension ...

This is one of my pet peeves about the car. Too much body roll, too much of a tendency to seek out the ruts in the road, and too much susceptibility to crosswinds. I know the thing is a wagon, but honestly, our Forester is even better, and the Infiniti never had any problem at all.
