Re: Project Car Part-Out!!!!

The car ran fine after the swap, but I had not properly protected the wires from the heat of the turbo and a bunch of them melted :( . Everything is in the car. I'd prefer to sell the whole thing, but if I can't and I have enough interest in parts then I will start pulling stuff off. So the reason t...

Re: melted some wires....oops

So I figured out which wires got fried, O2 sensor and ignition switch. I'm guessing that maybe a fuse could have been blown because the ignition switch wire goes to a lot of stuff. The fuel pump doesn't turn on when I switch the key to the on position. I'm really getting fed up with this project, pl...

Re: melted some wires....oops

Ok I'll have to check next time I'm over at my garage. But there is a possibility that something could have been fried?

melted some wires....oops

Ok, so I finally got my swap running (EJ22T in 94 impreza) and I took it around the neighborhood for 5 minutes then put it back in the driveway. Once I put it in the driveway it stalled out, I tried to restart it and nothing. It turns out that the turbo gets kinda hot  and I had melted some wi...

I didn't mess with the ignitor wiring, I left it alone. But when I looked at the plug for the ignitor on the legacy harness it has 6 wires, the impreza one only has 5. I'm gonna try replacing this and hopefully it will help, cause everything else seems to be correct.

okay I think all the realys are sorted out, but I'm not getting spark. I don't think that the impreza ignitor will work, it's missing the pin for the yellow wire that goes to the ECU pin labeled "ignition switch". I made a trip to the junkyard and found a couple n/a subies, and all of them...

That thread sounds like you had very similar problems. I'm gonna try the thing with the diode and see what happens. Thaks a lot for your help man! I think you're right about this being the hardest part of the swap.

UPDATE: car won't start! The fuel pump wasn't working, so I wired in a switch for the relay, but when you put the key in the ON position it turns off, and vise versa. I think it probably has something to do with the self shutoff switch, because when I grounded the fuel pump relay by itself then it w...

Mechanical. Not sure about the threads, but the piece that gets threaded in is at least 20mm dia. It's an Autometer, if that helps. The probe is pretty long though, way longer than the stock water temp sensor.

where to mount water temp probe????

I've got a water temp gauge to install and I'm trying to find a spot to thread the probe into. I was thinking the coolant reservoir tank, but it's plastic. Any ideas?

I mean one of the 3 connectors that attatches to the engine harness. Theres a round one and 2 square ones, one with 12 wires coming out of it. The g/w and w/g I don't have hooked up to anything. When removing them from the complete harness it looks like they went to something underneath the steering...

Ok, I got the ignitor thing figured out. You're right it seems to be pretty important :) My wiring is all finished except for 2 wires coming from the 12-pin engine connector, called "E2" in the FSM. A green/white wire, and a white/green wire. The FSM appears to neglect to inform as to what...

Thanks!! Very helpful info. Mostly the same as what I was doing, except you've got a few better ideas. The intermediate harness between the legacy and impreza engine plugs is a good idea. For the ignitor, can you use the impreza one? It looks to only have 5 pins in it, I don't even know what that th...

harness merging questions!!!!!

Ok, so I'm putting an EJ22T into my '94 impreza L. Today a fellow bbs member and I started tackling the wiring. We were trying to decide on the best way to do it. I have a chart that I think I got from another member, "n2x4" maybe? It states all the pin differences between the 1.8 ecu and ...

thanks for the responses guys. Brake cleaner worked really well, and then I soaked the parts in a bio-degradeable de-greaser.

I have a water temp gauge that I'm going to install, could I just thread that in where the broken temp sensor was?

Can I clean engine parts in my garage?

I'm in the process of rebuilding an EJ22T to put in my impreza and I have a couple of questions: 1. Is there any way I can clean engine parts in my garage? I've heard that there is an oven cleaner that removes grease. I'm not rebuilding the heads, so is there some way I can just soak them in somethi...

Ok, so I ordered some ACL race bearings from ebay and the seller sent me this message:

"can you let us know your main bearing in 5 position or 3 position? And the rod bearing in 52mm shaft size or 48mm shaft size?"

Does anybody know the answer to these questions?

Thanks for the replies, very helpful.

One more question. Are the head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, etc. the same for the EJ22T and the EJ22E (turbo and N/A) ?

grrr, I was hoping I wouldn't have to tear this thing apart. What parts will I need to fix this? Crank bearings? Also, I'll need a bunch of gaskets to put everything back together. Anybody wanna give me a list?

thanks guys.

At first I thought it was just the pulley, but it's not. The flywheel moves too. What's the worst that could happen? And how long? I just want the car finished at this point so I can get autocrossing. It doesn't need to last that long. I'll be done school in a year then hopefully I'll be able to aff...

crank wobble?????

Ok, so I've got an EJ22T that I'm going to be putting in my 94 impreza wagon. When I was replacing the timing belt and water pump I noticed that the crank moves forward and backward if I pull/push on the crank pulley. I hope that makes sense. I'm thinking bearings.

Is this a big problem?
