Re: Code 44- confirmed solenoid good (New Development)!!!
Good fix, but for the future questions it would've been nice for us to know this was an N/A harness converted for Turbo use. Many of us old-timers here know about the differences between the turbo and N/A harnesses and would've been able to point you in the right direction right off the bat.

Re: Dead Robtune ECU, can I use stock EJ22t ECU?
Ive been running my stock ecu on my ej22t block with ej25d heads on 550 injectos td06 20g turbo and on a turbosmart fuel cut defender at 22 lbs and the ecu does great however gotta change plugs rather often but it will work and will pull hard That can and does work in your case and others. But the ...

Re: speedometer help!!!!!
You absolutely still do need the VSS for the ECU. The ECU uses the VSS table to compute all sorts of fueling and idle control values.

Re: speedometer help!!!!!
You need VSS to the ECU, yes. I assumed that since you are using an 04 FXT harness, you'd also be using the 04 FXT ECU and speed sensor. In that case, the speedometer can be completely standalone and not tied into the ECU's systems at all, which is why I suggested a GPS speedometer for ease of insta...

Re: speedometer help!!!!!
You could put in an aftermarket VSS or GPS speedometer from SpeedHut, AutoMeter, etc.
Or you could mod the dash and repin the harness to fit in a newer Legacy, Impreza, Forester gauge cluster with a VSS speedometer.

Re: Mike's 92 SS
I ran 19psi on stock 22e pistons with no problem. Based on my own inspection, they're thicker and heavier than EJ205 pistons, so I'd expect them to hold up to the power with a good tune.

No problem, it's still an easy swap for you. 22T harness, 20G intake manifold, 20k longblock and a RobTune all takes very minimal work.

You need to read the EJ20G ECU conversion thread on this site. It will answer all of your questions.

Re: ESL Board for USDM 1st Gen Turbo Legacies
Yeah, it uses the plastic MAF which tops out around 270-280whp. You could use a different, larger MAF and scale the ECU properly or go speed density with no MAF at all. I think Mike may be considering speed density later on.

Re: Center diff. shimmng
The drive and driven gears on the WRX center diff incorporate a 1.1:1 ratio, the WRX front diff is a 3.90 and the rear diff is a 3.54. The center diff gearing of 1.1:1 makes the rear diff match the front ratio. If you ran a 1.1:1 center diff ratio with a 4.11 front diff like the Outback has, you'd n...

I drove my swapped 99 for a couple days with an open catless bellmouth as well, it made my eyeballs vibrate.

Loud, but not dangerous at all. I've ran open downpipe without a turndown for quite a while before.
Re: Wrx heads
Eh, low CR isn't the end of the world. It isn't optimal for power, torque, mileage or spool time, but it'll run OK.
Re: Wrx heads
The combustion chamber is too large if they are 96 heads, you can't use them on a 2.2 bore.
Yeah, the HLA is under the bucket on 96 heads, no rocker arms.

Re: Wrx heads
The 96 head valvecovers are not compatible with 97-99 heads, as you can see the sparkplug tube is shaped differently. So you must have 96 heads. Further, the head itself will not work well if at all on a 2.2 block since the combustion chamber is made for a larger bore. Somebody must've put a 96 engi...

Wow, cool, if I had found that for $1200 I would've picked it up too. Especially since it's a 5-speed.
Re: Wrx heads
Rings are indeed Turbo specific in the parts catalog. Whether it really makes a difference, probably not.
12033AA390 is the Std bore ring set for an EJ22t. It's been discontinued from Subaru, so I guess you'll have to run what you can find. When it was available, list price was $125.

Re: Ej251 with ej22t heads questions
It's always good to keep learning, I learn new things every day. :) Sometimes you just have to try stuff for yourself and learn through experience. 257 pistons require 257 rods. The 257 rods have a taper at the top to fit into the piston skirt. 205 rods are also the wrong length, but they won't fit ...
Re: Wrx heads
The 25D cams are fine, the heads flow much better over about 4-4.5k than the 22t heads do.
Re: Wrx heads
Turbo cams significantly improve 25D heads in a turbo application. There is more overlap on valve events with 25D cams. They'll work, but they aren't optimal.
Old-school cam gears on Ph2 engines was a JDM only thing. Like others have said, Ph1 cam gears will not work with Ph2 heads.

Re: Ej251 with ej22t heads questions
If you had used 257 head gaskets you wouldn't have had to drill them out. Likely that the 251 was fine and the high CR plus boost toasted a rod bearing. EJ251 with STI internals does not require thrust bearing work. They're both Phase 2 so have the same thrust bearing location. That was an option I ...
